With the rem 700 no longer being made what your action of choice for your long range rifle ?

I never did have many rem 700 rifles but they were always super smooth untill they made the super cheap sps ones .I don't like savage actions even though I own two of them in 260 rem that are super accurate .The win model 70 is about out too because of cost .There is not much left in the way of factory actions .I am going to the good old ruger tang safety action for my next rifle a custom 260 rem with a ligilia barrel .The Browning a bolt is another choice but you never see anyone build rifles with them .

I would look for a used Remington or wait a couple months until they're made again.

With the price of today's custom actions building off a 700 is pretty pointless. Unless you enjoy low resale value.

Good question I have a factory 700 in 30-06 and I have had a few I really thank my next one will be a model 70 or savage 110.i know when I'm able to have a custom built it will be in a model 70 action

I have a win model 70 black shadow I keep thinking about making a 338-06 or a 6.506 out of .I also have a weatherby vanguard with a beautiful old vanguard stock that needs to be something besides a 3006 .

Give Kauger Arms a strong look.

I gave built a few crazy accurate rifles off of Rem 700 actions. ThT said, with all of the sub $1000 choices out there for custom actions, I really don't see me doing this any longer. The Big Horns, ARC, and Curtis all get my votes with the controlled round feed Big Horn TL3 being my favorite (while not sub $1k). Once you consider all of the prefit barrel options for these actions, it really leaves little to consider, unless you are opting for the traditional approach, just because.

There's plenty of remmy clones, that start out way better from the get.

They made over 5 Million M700's- probably still a few around to build on. I just picked up a new 700 VLS 204 Ruger at a LGS on sale.

It really depends on the donor when it comes to 700 actions.
All of my own customs have been built off the VS, VSSF II, Sendero II or CDL.
Not one has been out from centreline by more than .0015" so far. Building a few more later this year that I have hoarded, hoping the RR serial number jobs stay so true, they are very good action wise, the bolts leave a lot to be desired however. Lugs are way out.
Custom actions here in Down Under are so expensive with the conversion rate, then tax and then mark up, it's ridiculous.
Cheaper to buy a donor rifle here.

Savage 111. Suits my budget and I doubt I'll ever be capable of more than that action is accuracy wise. Was my choice when they were making 700s, still is, and if they start making rem700s again it won't matter to me.

I'll give it to them they sure are smooth compared to my beloved savages. Don't seem any more accurate but certainly aesthetically more pleasing
