hunting pistol

what do you consider long range? I had a TC encore in 30-06 , 15" barrel topped off with a 3x12 Burris scope. I could sit leaning back against a fence post and ring a 6" gong at 300 yards no problem.

The T/C platform is a decent one to start with. It does have some draw backs that can make it hard to get good accuracy from them at times (lack of a free floated barrel... etc.,), but the ones I've owned have been accurate (every one I've had were sub moa with handloads - one was a 1/2 moa gun).

I moved on to the XP-100 now, but those are a different animal.

What pistol do you recommend that are chambered in these calibers? Thanks
Kauger Arms Black Widow. Mine is in 6.5x47 Lapua.
You can get it in 6.5 Creed.
Mine has Bottom metal and detachable mags, but you will be able to get it as a single shot after the first of the year.

The Encore is a great option at a pretty modest price point. Like Ernie said, the Creedmoor or Lapua sized cases work really well. If the Kauger Arms is in your budget, it looks like a great gun. I've been kicking around the idea of getting either one of the Kauger Arms Black Widows or one of the Nosler 48 NCH pistols. I just don't like the right-hand bolt.

My 7mm08 TC Encore is as accurate as one can ask for. It was sent off for a trigger and action job at purchase time, so I don't know how accurate it would have been without.

For dirt cheap you might find a traditions pistol in 243win used, they were around $300 new a few years ago. I'm not sure if they are still in production but would be a great start without breaking the bank.
The Thompson Center Encore or Contenders are solid choices and can be found in a bunch of different calibers used and priced accordingly most will outshoot their owner.
243win and an 80gr bullet have ended several hunts for me in the past couple of years. Currently on my Encore is a 2-7X T/C scope that was purchased with the barrel so shop around and find something in your price range. Ernie has lots of threads with good info on different calibers.
