Your own 1000 plus range?

I'm in Iowa where everything is flat so it's hard to find a safe place to reach such distance. I had to get permission from 3 separate farmers to use their farmland for shooting, but only during the winter when the crops are out and the fields are not being used. I have one angle I can shoot about 1800 yards, but it was difficult to get one of the farmers to agree at all.
There's also a spot that goes to about 850 yards that has hunting land behind it, so you can only safely shoot there when no one is hunting that land. (There's only one spot to park when hunting there, and it's visible from where you shoot from, so you can easily tell if someone is hunting or not.)
It's not ideal but it's something. Problem with Iowa is that any big open land that can be farmed sells for anywhere between $5000 and sometimes up to $10,000+ per acre. Figure a half mile, even if it's thin, is a lot of acres for that price... it's just easier to get permission and be accommodating with the farmers.

I wish I had a 1 mile range within 4 hours. I have to drive 4 hours to get to a 955 yd range. Nice range, but limited distance. Costs $200 a day to stay in the ranch house and more if you have an instructor. The $200 a day is not bad though because it includes meals.
NO it SUCKS out west, we still have wild Buffalo that will trample you, Tourists that get in the way of the bullets, Tree Huger's that block you for bending over a blade of Grass, there are very few cell phone towers and it's easy to get lost forever because no one to call to help you out. if you aren't prepared for the wild wild west you will surley Die out here alone and hungry. no help within hundreds of miles. Oh and did I mention the BIG Snakes? Millions of them.

Well I would move then, haha. The west is just so much better all the way around anyway...I only have to drive 15 minutes to shoot for miles...And it doesnt cost anything but $3 for gas to get there, and I'm the only one there to boot. Dont have to deal with anyone, or any idiots... That's just dumb what some of you guys down south and back east have to drive, and pay for to shoot LR. Come out west, we have plenty of room...
SSSSHHHHHHHH
Come on man:(

Thats BS, everyone should go west and stay out of Texas. We dont have any BLM land because when the Nation of Texas joined the US it was on the condition that the feds could NOT have any of Texas land. It all belongs to Texas individuals, unfortunately. The King ranch could be used for hundreds of ranges if they chose to.

I have often used the Right-of-Way for high-tension power lines. but then again, I live out west where the ROW is on public land. maybe there's a ROW on some national forest land near you?

There is a gun range that goes to 1500 about an hour from me. They leased some farm land and set up a range with berms. The range has to shut down for planting harvesting and any chemical applications. Seems to be working well.

from the main shooting location we get 800 to 1600 . then we have a couple other spots to shoot from that turn the 1600 into 2050 and 2375 . when things get finished up we should be 3000 give or take .

talk to some of the farmers in your area, might let you shoot a turn row for a small fee I know there are plenty of them around the corpus area
