.270 the best?

I didn't mean to troll anybody. Seems like a rather conventional sort of comment. Nothing like the good old .270!
I think you will find folks here are not as high on the 270. It will get the job done but it has a limited selection of bullet weights compared to those above and below it (264 and 284), and also you will find that most factory barrels don't have the right twist for the heavy for caliber bullets people here like to shoot.

I'm going to go ahead and say that the .30-06 is the best cartridge ever, especially if you're hunting above 9k feet. A hot load can take elk wayyy out there with a high bc bullet at that elevation.

But really, I say .30-06 because that's what I have and love it. BUT, I truly wish I had a .270.

I guess you have never used a 25-06. LOL
Yah, the 270 Win. is a good caliber for deer but I prefer either the 130 Sierra Game King or Nosler Ballistic tip with 60 grs H4831, Rem case. CCI BR-2. This load is MAX but it has shot in every 270 Win I have ever come across.

Funny I was just having this discussion at the range Monday. I have killed deer with almost every standard cartridge from .223 Rem to .338-378Wby. The .270Win is perfection out to 500 yards with ALOT of bullets. I prefer the 140 Accubond, but the 110 TTSX is awesome as well as almost any other bullet you want to shoot. It also seems to be noticeably more mild mannered on the shooter end than the 30-06. As far as stretching past 500, the 150 Bergers will run nicely in the standard 10 twist. The .270 really doesn't need endless bullet options to fill the niche as the perfect HUNTING round. It's biggest flaw currently is it is boring in it's age and reliability and fantastic versatility...all with 3 conventional bullet weights. It's just not 'boutique' enough. Same for the 06'.
