Remington Custom Shop

I would stay away from Remington and just do a custom shoulder fit set up yourself bighorn action proof barrel any rem foot print stock and trigger you want and be shooting with in a week after getting your parts or have a smith put it to gather for you
Yeah you could just go with a Gunwerks if you have 3-4 grand to spend.

Longrifles is where I would start today. Not that Remington builds a bad rifle but, right now I'd be very hesitant to order one. I have one rifle built by Jared Joplin who is now with APA and it is stunning in terms of accuracy.

For what you describe, APA or Long Rifles is what you want. Cost will likely be similar and delivery will be faster. Best of all, the rifle is custom built for you so, almost anything is possible in terms of stock, caliber, etc.

Now, if you can buy a Remington custom rifle that isn't abused for current Remington over the counter money, go for it. I ended up with a custom rifle that way that was being sold off for non-custom money. It was used but hard to tell from new.

I have a Remington 300 WM that I had trigger job done and put in a skim bedded McMillan stock that shoots factory ammo very well.

Pictures won't blow up to see but that center target is Remington Core Locks and bottom left is Hornady SST, both 150 gr. (three shot groups after fouling shot) Just a stock Remington BDL tricked out a little.

Yes they did, I'm hearing Ruger bought the Marlin part and was in a gun shop Tuesday and they said some investment group they didn't know bought the Remington brand. Just what I'm hearing. I personally believe the Remington brand will be back soon.

I've had 8-10 Remington Custom Shop rifles. I wouldn't spend near $3K for a new one, but if you get a used KS or AWR (Alaskan Wilderness Rifle, not American Wilderness Rifle) for $1,000 to $1,250, you'll have a well-made and accurate 1/2" hunting rifle.

Please Riflemen, I would like your opinion concerning ordering a Remington Custom Shop Rifle 7mm Rem Mag. My only concern is ACCURACY. ACCURACY versus say a Fierce/ Christenson?
I just bought a Model 70 Super Grade with a maple stock in 7 mm magnum. The few groups I shot with it so far
are 1/2 inch at a 100 yds.

I grew up shooting Remington rifles and with a little tweaking they shoot pretty good to me. I currently have four and all are shooters. I am not familiar with AWR guns but am sure they are great as well. I have owned Sako's, Winchesters, Tikka's but always go back to Remington for some reason. I do own a custom Impact Precision rifle (a bit more than $3k) and that is really where it's at, but can't afford many like it. I guess I enjoy tinkering with guns or making hot rods out of them and found that Remington's are easy to get triggers & stocks for. It's like some folks like chocolate and some folks like vanilla ice cream but I have found that you can take a stock Remington rifle and put it in a good stock with a good trigger and it will make a fine hunting rifle for far less than $3k.

Yes, the Remington group went to bankruptcy and has been broken up and sold off. Freedom Group IMHO really messed up. I was a huge fan of AAC suppressors under Kevin Brittingham's ownership but, since then their product R&D has been underwhelming and really opened the door for SilencerCo to grow to a major manufacturer which later saw some break-up with two of their designers going their own way and starting their own brands.

If you can find a gently used Remington Custom rifle in the $1,000~1,250 range, I'd be tempted IF it was a caliber and format I wanted.

In today's production in the ~$1,000~1,500 range, I'd be seriously tempted by a Winchester Model 70.

The Kelby Koda in 6.5CM at $2500 retail is really tempting me but, it's not primary hunting caliber so hopefully, they will add some additional options in the future. A 7SAUM would probably get me to break my piggy bank and collect spare change to have one sent my way. It is a lot of rifle for $2,500 IMHO. That said, with patience, you can often turn up a good custom hunting rifle for similar money if you are patient.

Back in the 1960's and 70's Remington were great developers using the custom shop to launch projects like the 40XB and BR case. Colin Page was responsible for a lot of their success. I think the better accuracy derived from a small rifle primer used in the BR and other medium to small cases was one of their developments. Unfortunately a lot of these rifles found their way into inexperienced hands regards barrel cleaning but make excellent actions for rebuild.
If you are new to shooting then go for a 783 mod Rem and learn some of the tricks in getting better accuracy. Have plenty of clearance over the stock comb because of the many positions needed when in the field. A personal fitted stock is OK for trap shooting but for field, a waste of money.
Until the new owners of Remington commit to building quality rifles again then go with an old 1960/70's 700 design or newer 783 and learn.

Firstly you have this gun post in "FOR SALE"

Personally I would shy away from Remington right now. There are lots of factory rifles that shoot 1/2". Not sure I agree with your choice of a belted case cartridge but k sara sara.
You didn't mention your budget or use. Define accuracy. 100yrds? 500, 1000? Are you shooting paper or animals. What distance. Are you planning to load or shoot factory ammo? If you're not loading Id be looking at 7mm WSM is you're hooked on 7mm. A 300WSM BETTER. 300PRC better still. If you are not hunting LR a 308 or 6.5 Credemoor is hard to beat for accuracy. LOTS of quality factory ammo options.
Chk out these factory rifles.

If you have a rem 700 mag action you can put a Proof or Bartlein barrel on it with match chamber, blueprinted action and a match trigger for about or less than what you would spend on a Rem CS rifle. And having owned a few of those, they don't all shoot. Its Still a rem barrel.

good luck.
