So I've always been interested in the 6.5/06 finally finished up my build it started with a Remington 700 DM( if your building a gun don't use the DM they suck)it's got a 26"Lilja barrel and timny trigger shooting the 143 ELD X and RL26 topped with Leupold vx5 hd

(I'm like a kid waiting for Christmas) can't wait for black tail deer season here's a couple of pictures

Did u find a higher node with RL26? I am running 150s with H1000 and good bit faster than your results with rl26 and 143s. I was really wanting to try 26 but not sure it's worth messing with.

Out of curiosity what does a good bit fast mean? Wondering if I should try some H1000 in my 6.5-06AI. I've stuck with 4831sc and RL26. I was able to hit 3120fps with the 156 EOL but the bolt felt a little sticky 2 out of the 3 shots so I stopped. What are you pushing the 150s at?
To the OP that thing looks like it shoots great! I'm using the HS precision DBM on my 700 and its never failed to pick up a round. Good luck hunting with it this year!

So far I have got up to about 3170 with 150s mind u this is a 30" tube with an ultra 9 can mounted also. This is fireforming 30/06 brass just tinkering around seeing areas of interest. Should be little faster once brass has grown to chamber spec. Was thinking about doing an AI reamer in mine also.

Im running a standard 6.5-06 A square reamer. 1-8" twist 26" douglas barrel. 156 EOL, 59.5gr H1000, CCI200 .036" off lands, 2960FPS .3moa groups at 100 yards. Only have about 20rounds down the barrel, need to test it at 500yrds next weekend.

THIS IS A MAX LOAD, Work up to it.

I have a good friend that has built a couple 6.5-06 and they shoot lights out!! Nice looking gun and good luck this year.

Half the time it won't pick up a shell out of the DM the bolt just slides right over
If the bolt is sliding over the cartridge case, you might want to consider working the feed rails, or have a gunsmith work the feed rails. You did not mention what the donor rifle is. I had trouble with a Browning BLR that I converted from .308 Winchester to .358 Winchester, one would think that there was not enough difference between the two cartridges to cause a feeding problem, but...........there was. I had to bend the tabs on the magazine out ever so slightly to make it feed properly. I picked up on your thread because the 6.5-06 will be my next build; been wanting one for a while not. I do like Lilja barrels.

Lab Rat,
As stated, if your bolt is sliding over the cartridges, open both feed lips on your mag box SLIGHTLY until the cartridge rides high enough for the bolt to catch it. I have 2 HS Precision DMs. Both feed flawlessly once properly adjusted. One is mag bolt face, other is standard.

I had one I could never get to shoot the way it should have due to an issue with the chamber. I still love the caliber on a LA Remington. Your accurate load - trumps more velocity... Barrel life is just too short with these hot rods...

Good luck

jerry

You got a 6.5-06, not a creed. Stuff some more powder in that case!

My 22" 270 Win pushes the 145 ELD-X over 3100 fps with RL26. You're likely 3 -4 grains light right now. That gun wants to reach out and touch something with ELD-X's launched at 3100+ fps.

Sounds like this is a deer hunting gun - which IMO makes barrel life practically irrelevant.

Nice groups though.

Great cartridge..easy to work with and like every other caliber based off the /06 case loves H-4350...I remember an old timer Ray Roma in using this back in the 60's...he was the king of it at the Williamsport 1000 br matches
