880" of elk in one pic.....

We had an "elk raising party" yesterday at the APS shop. There were six of us to get the mounts up on the wall safely. I think they turned out very well.









Here are some pics of the Ram that Dad took on the same hunt. Now the biggest ram in the shop is not my own!!! Could not be happier for him though. Its in my shop because Mom is not terribly impressed with the look of the black sheep!!! LOL





Nothing really needs to be said that has not been said other then for those that may be seeing these pics and post for the first time, these bull were taken on a large acrage, high fence hunting ranch in Nebraska, they are not wild elk.

Hope you all enjoy the pics for what they are, just big elk.

Like I said before.......It's a good thing you have a big shop.

They look fantastic and you and Korey can be proud of them. They are very impressive and that is an understatement.

You'd better be sure and keep the floor clean cause when people come in and see that pair they're gonna be looking up with their jaws hanging down and you don't want them tripping over something.

Thanks KA for the response. Unfortunately I will never experience any of the elk hunting; fenced area or not. It's sad to think but I'll be 38 in April but will not be around for the fall hunting season.

I hope your experiences are always successful As I get older I find myself less concerned with harvast/killing animals vs. just watching the animals in their daily routine. Now that I am much closer to leaving this earth, I have a much more & much different love of the outdoors. In years past the harvast/kill was very important and today the harvast/kill does not mean nearly as much as the time outside. Watching the rabbits/squirrels/owls/hawks/ or whatever other animals is much more important than killing something. I had an owl perch on a limb about 6 feet away from be a few years ago and I was able to watch that owl hunt and successfully feed and mash rabbit to it's young. That was great. There are many things that I have seen since I realized killing is not so important.


Having said all that; I can realize why you need to shoot/kill actual animals. I also have no problem with how or why you do what you do. I guess I big thing is jealousy. Fact is I'm jealous of you and what you do and the hunting/shooting that you get to do.

Kinda hard to believe they're finally up on the wall. Dan did a wonderful job, as usual. It's been a long time since first finding the place in NB and entertaining the possibilities. All the planning. Convincing the wife. Two trips. Record book sheep and fallow deer. And these guys. Quite the experience. Worth every second ... and dime spent.

On the cartridge testing, it would have been interesting to get a more quartering away presentation. I'm certainly not complaining about how things worked out and maybe there isn't enough of elk there to keep a 280 gr. A-Frame of the STA from exiting, but I'd have liked to of seen it tested just a bit more. Maybe a buffalo hunt is in order. LOL.

Regarding the high fence hunting stuff, to each his own and I'd not criticise a person no matter which side of the fence you fall on. Return the favor's all I ask. For me it's pretty simple. If I can sleep at night having hunted game as I have, then I'm doing just fine. And I gotta be honest, other then a 5 month old boy adjusting my sleep habits as he sees fit, I sleep reasonably well at night and very much enjoy the dreams that I have of the experiences the Allen family has been fortunate enough to participate in. >> korey

Darn, I missed seeing those in your shop, by a couple of days. They look nice.

It is a shame you had to endure the wide array of opinions on your animal. I guess it is a web forum so you have to be ready for the strong opinions. I think you explained your position well. Nice job.

Next time you need to shoot one with a .25-06 using a match bullet. That will keep you busy fending off the insults/opinions. Sorry, I had to put that in.

Great looking elk. I'll stop by in a couple weeks to take a peek.
Still no monster muley on the wall by them. You going to shoot that big one you saw last year, or am I going to have to come up and get it.
