Coronavirus and Grocery stores

I dont know how to do a poll so informally, do you all believe that is:
a) a good idea, would help protect both consumer and employee
b) a bad idea, would do little if anything to help stop the spread
c) no opinion either way, in effect immaterial

Sounds like there's a story behind that... Was your trailer park queried recently? Or are you just stirring stuff up because you're bored at home?

To the OP- Thanks for taking the time to ask. Protection is equally important for both the employees as well as the consumers, in my opinion. The virus may be present on product by physical contact, which would spread as the product touches more hands. I am definitely in favor of the plexiglass shields for both sides, as well as gloves if deemed necessary since sanitizer is non-existent right now.

I partook in some early morning senior shopping yesterday, had a funny one. Heading to the self checkout lanes, observe a woman walk up close behind a guy checking out, but not go around to an open station, then she hops back like an idiot and now is standing on a taped line, must be the safe zone, no clue. So as I walk towards her, she backs up like I am some plague infested rodent, ok, I get it, but I feel the need to inform her that here is an open station, walk around the guy keep this moving. OMG, she informs me that she is social distancing, and needs a safe space. Of coarse I break out laughing, given the fact that all she had was a 12 pack of scott brand industrial strength buttwipe. She had just fought off 20 people to score her bounty in the busiest isle in the store, and now was choosing to social distance herself from the masses.
I'm pretty sure I muttered something to the tune of "good job airhead", or more colorful as I took the open station.

our local Safeway has plexi-glass sneeze guards and 6' distance tape in the lines (guess people have no idea what 6' looks like?) --YET, the checkers are touching everything and not wearing gloves---if you are going to go so far as to tape lines on the floor and pay to install plexi-glass shields, why not use gloves too?

My local sportsman's warehouse now only has 1 door open and an attendant at the door that counts people in/out---no more than 50 in the store at 1 time, they also put masking tape "Zones" around checker stands and 6' distancing tape lines in the check out lines--- they are also no refusing ALL returns, citing "health hazards to our employee"

my local walmart has suspended "order online pick up in store" and also "order online, deliver to home" for groceries and they shortened their hours to 7a-8p --- so now you MUST go into the store, stand in line at 7am with a hundred other people, run to the shelves to see if what you need is in stock ( well some people are actually doing that) then go stand on your masking tape line in a check out line-- if you choose to use a self check line, there is an attendant going through your basket to make sure you are not buying more than your "allotted" amounts of "rare" items before checking out and touching that nasty keypad for CC or ATM payment

Also, plenty of counties are now issuing a "stay at home order" and in the same sentence saying "but our parks are still open so please come out to exercise"

Garden of the Gods is now posting on the news that people are not maintaining the "social distancing" rules and tehy may close if people don't obey the rules

some of this stuff seems counter intuitive

You now are a First Responder!
1) Keep your employees safe.
2) Great idea of boundries and curb service , limits infecting the whole store. Service times for elderly and disabled population.
3) Proud of you and your employees for stepping up for the cause.

Just one more reason not to go to Walmart

You might be interested to know that using a plexiglass screen to protect grocery store cashiers is becoming quite common here on Long Island. Sitting on the edge of America's epicenter (NYC) you just can't be too cautious. Nearly 40,000 positive tests in NY and ,sadly, nearly 400 residents have perished already.
