Reloading supplies demand

I got an interesting notice today from Powder Valley. Abbreviated version:

- demand is up 10 fold over night and they are experiencing delays in processing orders
- no more back orders as it takes too long in customer service and they don't know when stock will be replenished
- if it is out of stock, they have it on order but again don't know when it might be available
- don't expect any promotional specials for the foreseeable future with demand this high
- in keeping with their past practice, they are not jacking prices just because of increased demand

I saw some other NRA published info that different vendors are experiencing significant ammo order increases but that they indicated large stocks so supply problems were not currently expected for ammunition. It sounds like that may not be the case for some of our favored components which already tended to be in short supply.

I'm not trying to spark any kind of panic buying or hoarding but thought a heads up from what I consider one of the better providers of reloading supplies might be of interest to the community that aren't on their mailing list.
Business is booming again for the firearms industry.

A local farm supply place down the road usually has a couple pallets of Remington range buckets of 9mm ammo. Wonder how much got sold.

I used to wonder who buys all of this stuff, but when you see empty shelves apparently everyone does.

Yup. It was after Sandy Hook in early 2013. The Federal 550 round value packs were a precious commodity. That, and anything 5.56. Our local Walmart rationed the 22lr.
Anyway, I'm glad to report I got a pound of Varget last week. I was gonna buy 2 but I decided to leave some for my brothers. That took some restraint on my part. Aren't you guys proud of me?

I have a friend who went crazy for ammo during that time. He stood in line every morning at Walmart and bought his three boxes, then to another WM across town (a super center), then to one 30 miles away. (He was retired and determined to win.)

At the end of it all 18 months later he had over 100,000 rounds of .22 LR and 100,000 rounds of 5.56, 9mm, 10mm, .40 S&W, .45 ACP, ..357 Mag/.38 spl, .308, 7.62x39, etc.

He's been trying to sell me .22LR for less than what he paid for it, but way more than it was going for retail as the supply has been back and the price dropped to normal for some time. He bought a lot privately and paid up to $75 for Winchester 555 packs, way more than the 5 or 6 cents a round they'd been going for.

Maybe he'll get something for it now, but usually these guys buy high and hoard it.

BTW, our local Costco implemented a no return policy on hand sanitizer, wipes and TP; so many people panic bought, and now are trying to return the 10 year supply they bought for cash.

I've made a lot of mistakes in life, but not keeping a good supply of ammo and reloading components on hand isn't one of them, and I usually do it by just spending a small amount extra each month for a few years.

PV had Varget yesterday. Today they have H4350.

****, wish I had been paying attention. I went there just now and successfully added 4350 to my cart, and the message said they had 17 eight pounders in stock, but they wouldn't let me finish checkout and another pop up message said they didn't have any. They've also turned off their phones.

Glad to see they even had it for a short while though.

Things are flying off the shelf in all stores. Firearms too. I sent an 1-1/2 hours the other day purchasing a firearm getting approved by the FBI. They couldn't get through to them. Once in only a few minutes to complete the process. It's to bad getting things not really need or in large amounts take it away from others. It's only been the last year or so, that things were back to normal. While at the store somebody purchase 87,000 rounds 5.56 in 62 grain in barrels. Now that one hell of a lot of ammo.

I learned beginning in 08. Buy a little hear and there every month, until you get your desired amounts. Don't wait for a SHTF scenario, because by that time it will be too late. I bought powders back then that I'll never use. Like 8lbs of H414, 3031, oh and RL26, H1000, VV570 😁
