What happened to this brass?

These are great stories. Solid entertainment. Makes me think of the time I over charged a muzzle loader. When the smoke cleared the hammer was re-cocked. That's ok? Right?

I'll bet the guy didn't know what he had done, he loaded 3 in the magazine 1 in the tube fired his rounds thought good enough and went home leaving the evidence behind, over the years I've witnessed a 223 being fired in a 220 swift took the guy a number attempts to get the thing to go bang, I'd have bet money you couldn't get the thing to fire, that guy earned himself a trip to the ER, 270 in a 280, 280 in a 06, 300 savage in a 308 Winchester, 338 federal in a 338 Winchester, 338 Winchester in a 7MM STW and another earned trip to the ER,
Bret, sounds like you need to change your environment, lest it become contagious!

Looks like someone was out where there were no options to buy ammo for 300wby and found that for that hunt he could get by.... I know of one hunter that found that 270win would shoot in a 30-06, but it shot to 3 feet at a hundred yards. I'll bet the 300 win mag did better in the Weatherby!

Or the folks that refer to their rifle as a 6.5 when the have a 6.5CM, ignorant to the fact that there are many 6.5 cartridges.

There is other 6.5 cartridges wow when did this happen

I had something similar and odd happen to me. I bought a bunch of 300H&H ammo a while back from gun shop that sells older ammo. The bullets I got were stamped with 300H&H and looked identical to all my other rounds, but when I tried to use them, I couldn't close the bolt. Odd but I am at least smart enough to not force it....

A classic case illustrating why belt headspace is a bad idea. Little doubt it's 300 WIn Mag Ammo fired in 300 Wby Mag. The shoulder length dimension is about 0.10" longer in WBY mag.. chambers & headspaces fine, probably doesn't group real well.

Could have been a Pre 62-63ish? 300 WBY. They were marked 300 mag before the Win Mag, and after that they started clearly stamping 300 WBY MAG vs 300 WIN MAG

I was at a club for meeting yesterday and found these 4 cases on bench. They are FC 300WM but what happened to the neck of this brass? I think they were shot in something other than a 300WM like a 300Wby? Thoughts?

It sure dose looks like a 300 Win Mag fired in 300 Wby Mag alright. Overall length on a 300 Win Mag is 2.620, and 2.825 for a 300 Wby Mag. The shoulder lenghts on a 300 Win Mag is 2.356 and Wby Mag is 2.384. Note the difference from the rim to the belt. Somebody got mixed up or something. Anybody look at the head stamping on the case's?

I am not for sure on the 30/06 cases, but they look to be a head spacing problem. That rifle needs to go to a gun smith.

You can covert several case into other cases, but you have to full length resize the case to start with. Trim to length and other work. 30/06 case can converted to 308, 270, 25/06 cases. The Winchester Mag case can be converted to be used for anything from 338 Win Mag, 300 Win Mag, 308 Norma Mag and 264 Win Mag. There is some work involved to complete the case change, but it works. Don't say that can't be done. I covert 300 Win Mag cases all the time into 308 Norma Mag cases. Buying 308 Norma Mag cases are very expenses and 264 Win Mag case can be a little prices too.

Go to your hand loading manual and look at the different on those cases that I have stated above!

Beats me, but they do look like they were fired in a 300 wby chamber. It wouldn't surprise me at all if someone who didn't Know any better fired some 300 wm cartridges in a 300 wby.
I have s friend who couldn't "afford" the Wby so shot 300 Wm all the time.
