Titanium weight savings?

I'm talking myself into building a sheep rifle. Want one that's 7lbs with scope. Trying to decide if spending the extra money for titanium is worth the few extra ounces?
Haven't decided on long or short action yet.
But am going to be using a carbon 6 barrel unless someone says other wise

Weatherby Backcountry, either the steel or TI version will get you there.

The carbon barrel will be heavier than steel also.

My Weatherby Mark V six lug ultra light with Talley light weight rings and twenty-two ounce scope weighs weighs seven pounds four ounces.

When it had the Weatherby barrel and a Swarovski z5 5-25X52 it weighed six pounds thirteen ounces.

It's a question I've argued with myself about many times... and frankly I don't know who won yet. I could load one less bullet and cut my toothbrush in half and save $1k... I believe I am officially unconcerned enough to not promote one way or the other. I can loose a pound of body weight by Tuesday and not notice it while gaining 1500 ft of elevation. The whole topic has become the young bull and old bull situation to me. I spect I have become the old bull now... The good news is, there is no wrong answer. Injuns shot pokey sticks on horseback from a bent stick and buffalo sinew with great success.

*if injuns is offensive to you I sincerely apologize... for your parents sending you to public school.. Don't be so quick to judge, you never know the heritage of the one who is typing.

My 7-08 "sheep" rifle weighs 6-14 built on a regular 700 stainless, Rock fluted barrel, Edge filled McMillan Classic, with a 2.5-8 Leupold in Talleys.

I have a 6.5 creed that at the 7lbs mark with scope and ammo.
I choose to use the ti action and bolt as it allowed me to add weight where I wanted it. Like the manners eh5 thumbhole. Added weight but boy is it nice. Also able to add a bit more weight to the scope.
So you could build one as light or lighter than that cheaper which I have but not with the extra features.

The rifle pictured below is a standard Rem 700 SA, factory bottom metal, tuned factory trigger. Firing pin assembly is a PTG aluminium one, and the bolt handle is a PTG stright handle with one of their alloy teardrop knobs on it. Lilja 25.4in barrel in Remington Sporter contour with Lilja fluting. It sits in a Wildcat Composites stock and wears a Swarovski z5 3.5-18x42.

It weighs 7lb exactly.

Carbon wrapped barrels are not your friend for light weight.

My short action Pierce Titanium weighs 1/2 pound less than the same action made from CrMo.

Carbon barrels are not the lightest but the idea is you get the benefits of a heavier barrel with weight of a light one.
I can make one much lighter with a non carbon tube but they heat up faster and if on the longer end can whip a good amount.

You usually save 8-10 oz with a ti Action vs the same steel action. I built one that is dead on 7lbs with a rem SA, #3 fluted barrel finished at 23" then brake. McMillan edge stock. Trijicon 3-9x40. Love it. If you are a person who likes a heavy scope, and want the carbon barrel, then I would look at a ti Action to stay under 7.

I had my action slabbed and barrel fluted to help get me to 7.

That is exactly why I went ti. Get the stock and scope I wanted and still be under 7.

The Mesa ridgeline will be available w/ ti action this year, I would imaging it'll be in that 5.7-6# area. The seekins havak element weighs 5.5# w/ an aluminum action, guys are raving about em. Rifles that light are increasingly difficult to shoot a long distances.
