MTM Slip Boxes

I usually only carry 20 rounds of ammo with me to the hunting club. I have always struggled with the slip top boxes coming apart and dumping ammo in my backpack or wherever. How do ya'll keep yours closed. I've never understood this design myself.

Just don't like the hinge top boxes? They never pop open on me, had a slide top 20 round box and ended up giving it to someone. I bought it for hunting but it made noise with the cartridges banging in their little cubicals.

Look at Ammo Vault by Frankford Arsenal.
They can be a pita if you get in a hurry to open but that's it.

The only flip top I see are 50 rounds. Do they make a 20 round for magnums? That would be great.

Yes. Midway shows them discontinued but Frankfords site has them for sale.$10.99 each. Didn't look anywhere else. I've got some in two sizes since I've used it for WSM and 7RM etc..

Dang, didn't know they still existed, hadn't seen them in like 30+ years.

I did google them and it shows Brownells has them for $1.99 and Sportsmans Warehouse for $2.99.

My dad used ruber bands on them as well

I actually stumbled upon the Frankford Ammo Vault. It's a slip top on steroids. I had to order one.

I cut foam to fit the top part so the rounds don't rattle around and use duck tape to hold em closed tight. No noise no problem just not a rapid reload but that's not my intentions it's just a way to have backup ammo.

I use 1/2" wide Velcro tape. It's used for securing data cables. Cut off strip the length you need and wrap around and secure to self. I use it for a lot more than ammo boxes.

I use the 50 round plastic ammo carriers, doesn't matter the manufacturer, and....use a quality piece of masking tape to hold the boxes shut. This works for all the cartridge cases that I have for the Whelen and the 45-70. The tape will hold the cases shut for quite some time and when the tape gets old just replace it with a new piece.

I use the 20 round Plano boxes and use a twisty tie (bread tie) on the little molded-in hoops on the side.

I use a leather ammo wallet. Only holds 10 rounds, and isnt waterproof, but they are quiet and can be worn on your belt. Usually pick up at Fleet Farm or some other local store for about $17.00. Could always put it in a ziploc in your pack. I've had a couple for about 20 years
