Ok there is another thread on 7mm bullet, but most where for higher velocity rounds and did not want to derail anyones thread. I have my 7mm mag that my go to hunting rifle. I am how ever working on loads for two 7mm mausers and new 7mm-08 AR10. Looking for thoughts on best performing bullets in the 2600 to 2800 fps range for hunting whitetail deer. Mostly 130 to 150 gr bullets with some heavier. My normal range around here are 300 yrds and under with occasional but rare 400 yrd open field shots.

You will just have to find what your rifle likes but at those speeds and for whitetail the first two i would try would be Sierra gameking and hornady interlocks. Both are reasonably priced and perform good on game. I normally get great accuracy with at least one of them,if not both.

The 150 Accubond Long Range would be a great option, they claim to expand down to 1300 fps, and I have heard they are a little explosive at 3000+ fps impact speeds. 2600-2800 fps muzzle velocity would be that bullets bread and butter.

I also really liked the performance from a 140 Ballistic tip out of an 18" barreled 7mm-08. Took LOTS of pronghorn with it out to 450 or so, not a single complaint.

Any of your "long range hunting" options are going to be designed to preform well at low velocity. I am a big berger fan myself. If you are feeling really undergunned monos like Barnes and hammers will penetrate very well. The trade off being without fragmentation your shots have to be placed more precisely. (yes I know hammers are designed to fragment but until I shoot a few I wont trust them to reach out and find vitals the way the Bergers do.)

I began loading my son's 7/08 with 140gr Accubonds at 2,693fps when he was very young. He's 21 now and shooting the same load, every critter from bobcat to deer have mostly been bang flops. At the 400 yd + range I would recommend putting it somewhat in the shoulder to initiate expansion.

Hornady .284 162gr ELD-Match. At those impact velocities it is a great performer. Hornady personal have been using them (and A-Max before them) on medium game for years.

I have been loading 139 Hornady BTSP's for my daughter's 7-08 for 20 years now. She has taken several cow elk and mule deer with it. We also loaned the rifle and ammo to a friend daughter who has taken 2 cow elk with it. All but one were 1 shot kills and never went more that a few steps before falling. One of the elk was taken at 380 yards, DRT. The 139 Hornady has never disappointed me.

I reload for three 7-08's. 139 SST, 140 Nos.Bal.Tips. I shoot 2640fps...and 75-200 yards for Deer. Good load for ME in the mountains of NC. At 200 yards my impact speed is roughly 2250...250 yds is 2160fps... That's bout as far and slow as I want to shoot these bullets...though they should open up at slower FPS. Good Luck
