6.5-300 weatherby

Looking for some hands on info about this bad boy.. looking for personal pros and cons

Shot one that belonged to a friend quite a bit back in the eighties and nineties. It's a screamer but you are limited to hard to come by and always overpriced Weatherby brass.

I've also shot the 6.5 STW and came within an inch of buying one but got an opportunity to buy a 6.5 LRM that will run 140's around 3400fps.

If that's the kind of velocity you want honestly the 26 Nosler gives you a great factory solution.

If I build another 6.5 screamer I think I'll just go with the 6.5-.375 Ruger. It'll gain me a few grains powder capacity and/or room to seat longer and heavier bullets and the brass is extremely easy to come buy particularly since I shoot the .375 Ruger quite a bit as well.

The 6.5-300 Weatherby is factory now. You can get ammo starting at $35.00 for 20 rounds and the premium stuff for around $50

May be able to check out over at the Weatherby Nation forums, I am part of that because I love the Weatherys and own a vanguard 257roy and a mark V 300roy

I'm on my 4th barrel.
1000 rd barrel life is about average
It will shoot real pointy bullets really fast up to the 147,s.
Really shines with 140 accubonds, 140 bergers and 143 eld-x. All around 3450 +\-
I've found the above bullets can go much faster with some of the enduron and reloaded powders but the accuracy goes away.
The 143 eld-x has creedmoor muzzle energy at 585 yards.

It's a neat cartridge, but I think I'm over it. I dabbled with some 6.5s and I'm going back to 7mm.
Might have 2 6.5 weatherbys on the classifieds soon.

Factory 127gr LRX ammo shoots extremely well in most of the rifles I've seen. Right at 1/2 MOA in my Accumark. At an honest 3500fps and change, zeroed at 300 yards (only 2.2 inches high at 100 to accomplish this) your dial up at 1000 yards is only 17.5 MOA. I love mine, but it's on a serious pitch count in the interest of barrel life.

It's a neat cartridge with real velocity potential but if you read much on it you'll find out that they dont all get there easily. Some are finicky in getting either velocity or accuracy or both.
I have one of those. Haha I'm finally getting there now but its takin a few pounds of powders and diff bullets over several months. It's not as fast as I wanted, but oh well. So in the case of my rifle at least you may end up with essentially 264WM +P speeds but burning 85-89gr of LRT to get it.
I also ran 91 & 94 gr of US869 but that powder isnt consistent enough in my gun.
With brass it's easier to find 300wby brass and neck it down, I neck sized mine .284, then full sized 6.5-300. Norma shooters pack deal of 100 cases was a awesome deal.
