Bullet puller? What do you have?

I have read about collet/die, inertia/hammer style and the Grip-N-Pull style.
My kinetic puller flew right in the trash. Went to the cam lok and never looked back. All the grip and pulls work great

Would love to be educated on this? Would only be used for if working up a load, I run into pressure and want to pull the remaining bullets. Not sure how often this will happen as I probably won't go over listed max change in book (at least till I have been reloading awhile).

Thanks
Steve

Hi, I have used the RCBS Die with the Collets for each caliber I shoot, for many years ! I make a lot of 6mm BR and .308 for Target, and .270 Win and 30-06 for hunting. If the COAL or OGIVE numbers are wrong , I pull the bullet and reseat it. Very simple and easy . Some times there are slight impressions on the bullet. They have never seemed to matter at all in my hunting loads. Lenny

I have all three types. My preferred devise is my RCBS collet style bullet puller.

Same here: RCBS Collet type bullet puller, part number 9440. I bought 7 collets to handle everything I load, and a couple more.

I also have a Quinetics kinetic puller and added their new style washer insert and it works very well, better than when new. I've pulled as many as 100 rounds with it in a session (don't ask me why, dumb mistake), and it actually went pretty fast, although not as smooth as the collet tool.

I stuffed a foam earplug in the back end of it and the bullets are fine, plus powder hardly sticks to it like it does a cotton ball. I picked up one of those UniqueTek component cups to recycle the powder back into the measure easily.

First I've heard of the grip n' pull, pretty cool, but neither of the systems I use leave any marks on the bullets, so I'm good for now.

I use the kinetic puller. I whack the head against the end of a 2x2 piece of wood about 12" long that I hold in my other hand. The bullet comes out, and the powder follows it into the head. I remove the cap and shake the powder back into the bottle through a .22-caliber Satern powder funnel. A 30-caliber bullet cannot go through the hole, so it's an easy thing to just pour the bullet into a small container and that's that. I have used a collet puller; they bite the bullet and bugger it up. I don't use it anymore at all...

Have used 3 methods
1 - kinetic hammer was slow and cumbersome at loading bench ,
2 - preferred collet die method but did not reuse bullets except for maybe offhand practice, and
3- just put loaded shell in loading press raise without die in press, grab bullet with pliers and lower shell with press to pull bullet.
#3 obviously ruins the bullet, but i really dont trust any pull bullet. Its been a while, but I think #2 requires different collets for each caliber, so if u only have a few its cheaper to just use #3. I don't trust pulled bullets, so #3 is not that disadvantageous, except it is easy to also grip brass.

It really does depend on bullet weight and number of cartridges to unload. My Kinetic bullet puller has a nice bend in the handle trying to unload 40 grain 22 Hornets ... lots of hard pounding with such a light bullet is required. Place a foam (Howard Leight) earplug or two in the bottom of the Kinetic puller and you will not have any damaged bullet tips.

It never hurts to have alternatives. As I previously noted, I have all 3 types, but find the inertia hammer most useful overall. I don't have too many situations or reasons to pull bullets, but I got all 3 just in case.

^^^^^^^^ This is my sentiment as well ^^^^^^^^^^^^

One thing I learned from this thread - you guys must be pulling far more bullets than I ever have. lol

Hello, Buy the Hornady "cam loc" bullet puller. Thats all you need for life. I was a fool with a plastic hammer prior to the Hornady tool. Not only does it pull bullet entirely out , you can adjust OAL for the funny cases that are trimmed to same length but still somehow are not the OAL you desire. Merry Christmas to all from the "223 Kid"

I have used the hammer style, collet style and grip and pull. Grip and pull is the fastest and works well. The collet style works well and is slower. The kinetic would be my last choice.
