Opinions on 338 bullets for elk within 500 yards

I need to get a new gun up and shooting for a 2021 elk/mule deer hunt. I am told shot opportunity will be 500 yards or less. I would like to have a load that performs at all ranges.

Gun is a christensen arms carbon classic in 33 nosler (very little load data for this cal.) With a bushnell forge 4.5-27×50 scope.

I have been waiting on nosler accubond lr 265 grain but talked to a few people that shot those out of other .338 caliber rifles and did not have any luck.

I have nosler brass and all kinds of powder available but need direction before buying a bunch of .338 bullets to collect dust.

At that short of range, all of your traditional bullets(speer hotcore, barnes x, accubonds) would work. Avoid Sierra matchkings! We used them for years and tested on wet phone books. Very crazy what they'd do.

Barnes 225 grain TTSX. I shoot it out of my.340 Weatherby-It is an Elk Hammer !!

Any hammer bullet!!! I like a good solid bullet for hitting elk especially inside 500 yards. Regular accubonds would be a good choice as well.

I would run a hammer bullet as well for your requirements

I've killed 10 or 12 with 250gr NAB. Another 15 or so with 250gr NPT. And a whole bunch with 180gr NPT (30 cal).
Longest with NAB was 481, close was less than 30.
There is another bullet?
I bought 1500 of them when I was worried Hillary getting elected otherwise I'd be tempted to try Hammers

You might consider the Barnes 250 LRX, or one of the Hammer bullets. They should work good with your cartridge! memtb

I might suggest the 213gr or 236gr Hammer Hunter. With 33Nosler published data saying you can get the 225gr class bullets to 3000fps you should be able to run either of those bullets between 3000-3100fps. That would make a real nice elk thumper. Hammer bullets seem to run fast.
