win 70- super shadow, short action, blind mag, wsm rifle restock

boyds classic stock

here is what boyds says on their web page: Due to changes made by Winchester to magazine sleeves for short action calibers. Magazine wells that are taller than 1.220 in rear and 1.030 in front will need to be modified to fit Boyds' stocks.

I knew this going into this project --BUT has anyone else attempted a boyds restock on a super shadow wsm?

the factory mag well is about 1.3 in front and 1.45 in the rear -- I can trim down the magwell BUT I'm afraid (from my measuring) that this will make it so that only 2 rounds will fit in the blind mag rather than 3.

anyone done this? anyone have more info before I start the project?

I got an unfinished nutmeg laminate boyds stock off ebay for a good price and wanted to "customize" it to look similar to the old win 70 coyote outback laminated stocks-- so this will take a bit of time and a bunch of wood work on my part-- but I didnt realize that my magwell was so much different than what will drop into a boyds stock

also, the front action screw bottoms out on my bolt head when using the boyds stock-- I know I can remedy this by using a shorter action screw, and or may be fixed when installing the alum pillars that I plan on doing-- the front action screw bushing seems to be recessed too far up into the stock, so I may be able to address this issue when I add the pillars

A friend brought a new Boyd's and his model 70 300WM to me for bedding. I had to mill the bottom of the blind mag well to fit the action correctly.

Less than 1/8". At first only two with the third almost fitting. Boyd's stocks always need inletting checked and bedded. Most stocks are somewhat generically inletted to fit several generations of actions.
