Noticed this at the end of an email, where I've been talking to Barnes.

I had no idea.

I asked them about using an LRX vs the TTSX. This was the reply
Barnes Bullets said:
As for the 180 gr TTSX that is the perfect bullet in your 300 Win Mag for close range as well as long range shots. The 180 gr TTSX only requires a minimum IMPACT velocity of 1500 fps to reliably expand. So out of a Win Mag that bullet will expand on game reliable from point blank range to over 1000 yards. Also with the weight retention of a Barnes Bullet a 180 gr TTSX will out penetrate any jacketed lead core bullet of 200 grains. A Barnes will penetrate 30 percent deeper than a jacket lead core bullet of equal weight. A 180 gr TTSX is plenty of bullet for any game in north America. Including Brown/grizzly bear. You would be amazed by the amount of customers we have using that bullet on Brown/grizzly bear. Due to the loss of velocity with the 200 gr LRX you actually would be losing performance.

run the numbers yourself--- I don't really trust what some manufactures say

barnes claims that their tipped tsx bullets "promote faster expansion" and "immediate expansion" --faster than what?

I know a guy that tested the tsx and the ttsx for expansion in ballistic gel in 6 different cartridges/calibers --every in every case the tsx out "expanded" and out performed the ttsx --I have also seen plenty of ballistic gel tests with the ttsx and I have never seen "immediate" expansion--they usually take a few inches to start expanding

I was just shocked. I guess it's kind if like Black n Decker owns Dewalt, Dewalt owns Stanley, Stanley owns Craftsman, and craftsman owns Kobalt.......or something like that lol
Stanley Black & Decker does own Dewalt(B&D acquired in 1960) and Craftsman, Porter Cable, Mac Tools, Proto, Blackhawk, Irwin, Bostitch and a few others! But they don't own Kobalt

I agree, anything from a manufacturer should be taken with a healthy dose of salt. Obviously they want you to use their products.

Kobalt tools are now identical twins to the new Craftsman stuff. That's why Lowes run those big sales to empty the old Kobalt stock. I've got friends that work at Lowes. That's how it was explained to me.

Cerberus I believe is one of the equity owners in Freedom Group. That should tell you much.

Cerberus was the lead equity owner when our company where I worked for 38 yrs was taken over. For them it's all about the buy and sell and profit; only concerned about their products and their customers should sales start decreasing..... My experience.

you mean berger?

Berger is manufactured and distributed in the USA by Capstone Precision Group, LLC, and part of the Nammo Group, a family that includes other premium brands including Lapua, Vihtavuori, and SK.

B.Litz is bergers chief ballistician --he founded applied ballistics
