I'm considering selling or trading my Niteforce G7 NXS and moving to a Leupold VX6hd 3-18×50. My G7 currently sit atop a GW LR1000 in 7rm. I love this setup and its proven to be very accurate, durable and repeatable. The motive for going to leupold is to reduce overall weight of rig by 10 ounces. I will also be swapping out the McMillan stock in favor of new GW Clymer stock to further reduce weight of rig.
Will I be happy with the change? I primarily hunt mule deep in the backcountry. I limit shots on game to 500yrds but frequently shoot steel and rocks out to 1000. Thanks so much for your thoughts!

I prefer my Leupold VX6HD scopes over the NXS I had for hunting. The NF is just to big and bulky for my tatse. Never have had a problem with my Leupolds and I've shot them from 100-900 yards. I had a CDS turret cut for my 6.5 PRC load and it's is dead on to 625 yards every time, which is far enough for me for hunting and at the range I'll just dial if I'm shooting to 1000. The ZL2 is pretty handy too. I also liked the TMOA reticle way better than the MOAR. MOAR T may be more my to my liking but I've never used it. I feel the only thing your giving up with the switch is 4x and a half pound. I've got a VX5HD 4-20x52 with the ZL3 also but don't have much time with it yet. Definitely a nice scope as well.

If you can swing it keep what you have and build a new rifle and get a Leupold for it! Always need an excuse for another rifle right

I feel your weight pain as I have 2-G7's. With that said I'll never downgrade because they always always hold zero and 100% repeatability. I have a 7LRM and haven't touch the zero in it in 5 years.

The stock your taking off is it the original LR1000 stock? It kinda looks like it in the pic.

And if you sell your G7 shoot me a message with a price. One can't have enough good glass

I'll weigh in on this (pun intended) because I recently did the same. I have two 7mmSAUM rifles and one of them is 7 pounds without scope or rings. That's my light weight one and I took off an ATACR 5-25x56 and put on a VX6 HD 4-24x52 to save the weight.

So far I like the Leupy fine but it's only been to the range. The reticle adjustments seem to be spot on and although I'm not a fan of their TMOA reticle with the dreaded hole in the middle I seem to be be able to shoot targets well with it at 100, 200, and 300yds but it stresses me somewhat not having a the classic crosshairs at the center.

I doubt I'll ever stop wishing the ATACR scopes didn't come in a lightweight version but I don't think they will. I had an NX8 4-32 and quickly traded it for an ATACR. I just couldn't see the reticle at lower powers so it was useless to me as a hunting scope plus I'm not a fan of FFP scopes anyway. If it had been an SFP reticle I might have liked it and I think I heard they'll come out with one eventually.

IMO the ATACR scopes will spoil you for anything else if you can handle the weight.

Well I have both of these scopes on different rifles and I love them both but I would never give up my Nightforce for the VX6. The VX6 I do have has worked well for me on antelope, mule deer hunts and one hunt in Africa. Clarity is good and I never had any issues with the adjustments returning to there correct settings. I just like the Nightforce better. The VX6 has been moved from rifle to rifle as I have been able to upgrade to more Nightforce scopes. Taking a setup that you are happy with and changing it to get a few ounces out of it may make you sorry in the long run. Just my opinion.

Have the nxs on one rifle and the vx6 on another. For we got reduction it's a great scope and have been super happy with it. I've considered selling the nf for another vx6. Hard call because the nf is such a solid scope.
