Feel free to call me a ******* if this subject has been covered but I did a search. I'm considering a factory rifle in 6xc that is only available in 9" twist. Berger's stability calculator says that's "marginal for 105 VLDs or Hybrids. If anyone is shooting those bullets out of that twist please weigh in. I understand 8.5 might be the ideal twist and anything faster might cause weaker constructed bullets to possibly come apart in the barrel. I'm sure there are people here with real life experience on the subject. Thanks

In a 6XC, I highly doubt you would ever get the speeds to vaporize a bullet from the barrel unless you go really light like the 55-60 grainers.

I run a 1:7.5" twist in my 6CM, slightly faster than the 6XC, but not much. I shoot the 105 Hybrid @ 3101fps with phenomenal results. But I never plan on shooting anything lighter than a 95 TMK for varmints. A 55gr might be too light to survive the rotation.

I did, however, run the 85 V-max in a 6SST @ 3650+in a 1:7.5" and had them "poof-gone" out of the barrel. It was really cool to witness firsthand.

I think Berger is a bit aggressive with their twist rate requirements. That 8 twist should work, but if I were to rebarrel, I'd do a 7.5 twist. I would rather be on the plus side, mentally! If you know what I mean 8)!

How do you like the TMKs. Ever since I ran out of Sierra FMJs I've been looking for an accurate bullet that won't tear the crap out of fur bearers when it exits. My next experiment was going to be Norma FMJs

They work good on coyotes. They do usually leave a big exit hole though. They tear smaller stuff up though. I would not consider them fur friendly.
