Im trying to figure out some details for a possible 300wsm build

I see that if you want to use the 215 hybrid bullet then a coal of about 3.1" is close to ideal length for a saami chamber for jtl and max speed capabilities

lets say you are limited to 3" or even 3.05" due to mag length--is there a "best bullet" for a saami chamber for this 3"mag length? --I know it will depend on what the gun likes-- gun will have a 1:10 twist

210vldh or 200H or 200.20H berger, 208 or 225 eldm, 200gr edge tlr ? looking for which "heaviest" bullet can be use to maximize speed/weight/energy with the 3" max length in a 300wsm

I know that the 300wsm seems to like the 165-190 range but I like to try different things

who is shooting heavies in a 300 wsm?

I'm following. I shoot Berger 190 Match VLD's at 2.95". I'm hoping I can fit Nosler ABLR's into 2.95" also, but likely too long.

Isn't SAAMI freebore .000" in the 300 WSM?
I thought guys were using .200 to .240" freebore custom reamers when using the 215 Bergers?
I dont think any chamber has .000" freebore/leade does it?
the saami print shows .1884" which I heard is just about perfect for the 215hybrid, they are using .24-.280" for the 230 iirc --but the issues comes with the magazine length not the chamber-- saami cartridge length is listed at 2.860" --but I heard you need around 3.15" or slightly more for optimal seating depth of the 215hybrid

this all could be wrong as I'm getting most of my info from google-foo --- here is a quote I found on the 230/215's online:
"Since my .300 WSM is an F-Open rifle, it may not apply to your build. My reamer has a .280" freebore for 230 Hybrids. Best competition results, in a load that I can actually shoot, is with H4831 SC. Best velocity was with IMR 7828 SSC, but it was beyond my ability to manage recoil on the rest. The 7828 load was very accurate and would be a very good choice if not overly concerned with tracking on the rest. [br]
A .180-.200" freebore should be fine for 215 Hybrids. They can be shot in a .280" but it is not optimal."

and one more " I can get the Bergers up to 2900 in my 24" barrel, but the best accuracy was at about 2850 fps. Overall length is 3.040", which is about .050 off the lands. "

so the first guy says .180-.200" freebore for the 215's and the saami is .1884" --the 2nd guy says he is running the 215's at 3.040 which is .050 off lands so that puts them touching at 3.1" which is about where I thought --

min case length is 2.1" (iirc) the neck is .298" and the shoulder plus neck is .436"
on the 215 the boat tail is .263", the bearing length is .463" and the nose is .872" (oal is 1.598")

so if you loaded the 215 to 3.10 you would have 1" of the bullet sticking out of the case which would leave .598" inside, this would put the base of the bullet past the shoulder but the not the pressure ring if I am reading correct info

BUT I am looking for where other bullets hit the lands in saami chambers so I can see what other options there are out there for a 3" long cartridge length

the Nosler 210 ABLR will fit in my Savage 12 SAAMI chamber and AICS mag 0.010" off the lands....should be ok. I just confirmed....no loads yet.

CALL BERGER AND ASK FOR A COUPLE OF BULLETS TO DUMMY UP AND SEE HOW they fit as far as oal
kinda hard to do that-- you'll notice that in the OP I said "possible 300wsm build project" -- how would I mock up a bullet in brass and put it in a non-existent saami chamber that I don't have?

Just finished a .300WSM w. 215 Hyb load development. If a Wyatt's extended box is used, the 215 is great. In a 23" 1:10", I got 2740fps. Held 1/4 MOA out to 821 where I stopped and called it good.
