Having a factory barrel reamed

I love my Ruger .300 Win Mag. Just set it back up, for another season. Using 180 TTSX loaded by Choice Ammunition, it shot Sub-MOA. This rifle has always been a terrific shooter. Here is a picture of the best group. The lone bullet was the cold bore shot.


Can I just have it reamed out to .300 PRC ? Would it be worth it in the end, or is there a chance I might ruin the "harmonics" of the barrel ? Seems like an easy way to have a great shooting PRC, but it can't be that easy.

You need about 3.7" mag length to run the prc the way its intended.

Don't know about others but my gunsmith won't rechamber a barrel that has been shot. He says its too hard on his reamers. Don't know if true or not. In any case the barrel would have to be set back too, not just rechambered.

I don't intend to run it as intended. The difference in the PRC and my wildcat version, was the COAL. I want to run it with a 3.34" OAL. My original goal was to make use of the wasted belt space.

That's what I was looking for. I wasn't sure it was even worth the trouble.

The only issue with re chambering is residual carbon. If the chamber is cleaned of all/any carbon, there should be no problem with reaming. The only other thing is that if the old chamber doesn't allow the reamer pilot to reach the old bore before it starts cutting it could chatter.
