7 Rem Mag or 28 Nosler

I went back and forth on this and I'd go 7mm RM or even 280 AI for these reasons. Cost and barrel life. 28 Nosler brass is pretty spendy. But if money and barrel life isn't a factor then 28 Nosler is a fine cartridge. I'd get a barrel twist to run the 195gr bullets.

I'll stay with a 7mm a little longer. There seems to be a disproportional number of used
28's for sale for the time they have been available?..Why?
A Guy at Bartlein told me you need to start checking the throat of a 28 after 75-80 rounds
because of erosion. The pressure goes up FAST! And order new barrels by the 6 pack if you like to shoot.
I got the distinct impression he wasn't a fan?

Before I built my rem mag I read every thread on the inter web comparing the two. Could bring myself to do a 28nosler due to barrel life. Consequently I knew what he meant lol
I agree if your going to build one to shoot steel with the 28 isn't what you would want but I dont see anything wrong with one for a hunting rifle i like mine and looks to me if you take the the low side of barrel life of 800 then take off 100 for sight in- tuning so 700 rounds left now say you shoot 50 rounds a year that's 14 years before you have to rebarrel your hunting rifle, and for most people I know 50 rounds a year would be a high number, just my thoughts

Pretty sure he meant 400-600 less rounds than a 7rem mag barrel life.
8-900 28nos
1500? 7remmag
Yup. That is what you GENERALLY see in the two chamberings before issues start to arise from throat erosion/firecracking such as accuracy deterioration or bullet jacket separation/bullet poofs. There are always outliers and exceptions on both sides, but those are general numbers that are fair to go by.

Not disagreeing with you at all. I'm pushing a 180hybrid at 3052 with the rem mag and I wish I would have more barrel life...but I just can't stay off the trigger lol

Thanks for the input from all. I appreciate it. I'm still on the fence about both but I'm leaning towards the Nosler. I also like what I see on the 280AI but it's not offered in the particular rifle I am wanting. Thanks again for the input!

For what's it worth, a few years ago I ran into the guys from Gunwerks at a show, I was intrigued by the rifles they offered and one of the questions I asked was, what was the most popular caliber they chambered their rifles in. They were honest and told me that a lot of 7RM & the 7LRM was what they recommended. However, they were huge fans of the then brand new 28 Nosler, and did their R&D on it and stated that it far exceeded the capabilities of the 7RM & 7LRM and would highly recommend the 28 Nosler.

have a good friend that said the exact same thing to me; of course he had attended their LR school a few times and has several of their guns! Lol! He may be biased..

OP, there is no right answer just a personal preference. I will put it this way without bias:
Which of these do you prefer?
