Weatherby Backcountry

Has anyone handled or shot the Weatherby Backcountry? I'm really interested in one in 280AI or 7mm Weatherby mag but can't find a local dealer that stocks them. Looking for opinions before I take a trip to Sheridan.

Which model? Vanguard or Mark V? My hunting buddy has the Vanguard version in 300 WM and it shoots well for him. Mark V is pretty intriguing though...

Mark V. I've hunted with the same Mark V deluxe in 7mm for the past 35 years and it's never let me down. Hard for me to go to a different manufacturer. It's just seems to get heavier every year though, being my backcountry rifle... I think it's time to lighten up a bit.

The one we really liked when we visited a month ago was the Weathermark LT. Lightweight and just felt perfect.

I also would want to keep the Weatherby profile stock, and this is a way to do it.

The custom shop said they'd drop a backcountry ti in an ultralight stock for me. I'll probably go this route.
