Hi All,
I'm a novice reloader looking for some advise. I currently have a sub MOA load using RL19 and a Barnes 225 ttsx. I'm wanting to go to a less temp sensitive powder. I definitely want to stick with this bullet but was told by Barnes tech support that any data from another manufactures solid bullet of the same weight would work as a starter.

Would like to try H1000 OR RL26 but can't find any load data for a safe starting point to work up from. Any info on these powders with a solid 225 would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I know you said you didn't want to use RL19, but I have a .340 Weatherby Mk V FiberMark, and I have been loading 87.0 grains of RL19 behind a Barnes 225 TTSX. I was just shooting it yesterday, and shot a half inch group in 80 degree temps. The load has always been super accurate, and I have never had any problems with it being "temp sensitive". I was confirming my zero yesterday, getting ready for my trip to Chama in 3 weeks. I have read that RL19 is temp sensitive, but as I said, I never experienced any problem. I have read that unless you are shooting long distances (in excess of 500 yards), it really shouldn't make much difference. Good Luck in your quest for a better, more efficient powder. I will follow this thread hoping to get info from others.

Just finished working up a load with RL-19 and the 225 TTSX in my friend's 338 WM which is 0.67 inches at 200 yards. I've tried 7828 in my 340, but have yet to try RL-19. Frankly, if the RL19 shoots well in your rifle I wouldn't change now.

I hear what you're both saying. I have a great load to fall back on if need be but would like to take out yet another variable to shooting long distances. I hunt in weather from 80-90degress down to zero or lower

Check out this article. It compares H1000 to RL22. Obviously not a RL19 test run but I'm guessing given RL19's reputation as being sensitive the results would be similar

I just wanted to add that I first tried RL22, but could not get the same velocity or accuracy I get with the RL19. Not sure which is the most temp stable of the two, but I much prefer the RL19.

You can achieve similar velocities with the Re-26 and at a lower pressure on the curve. Norma MRP will just about match the Re-19 loads. The problem is finding Re-26 right now. Most of the major suppliers are out but you might get lucky at one of the small local shops instead.

I shoot several of the Reloder powders which have been branded with the 'not temp stable' label but I haven't seen it with my loads. I shoot and hunt on the desert mainly but I chase elk up in the mountain meadows where it snows and gets a little chilly sometimes. I haven't had any problems with the loads I shoot.

I have used 86.0 grains of RL22 behind 250 gr Nosler partitions producing 3050 fps in my custom 340 Roy for as long as RL22 has been around. I've taken everything from moose and bears to antelope and coyotes in hot (80°-90°} to -0° weather and never had an issue with powder sensitivity. I am getting 1.5 inch groups at 200 yds. I'd like to try RL26, but have a case of RL22 so why bother. Good luck.JM

A little side note here the RL 22 was more consistent in the test. It may have gained velocity but the extreme spread and SD made up for that. This is some thing else the OP may want to look at if going long range.

I have used RL 19 in the 340 wby for 15 years and havent had a problem with temp sensitivity. Ive used it in temps from 80 to -15 degrees. Good luck to you

I also have a Weatherby Mark V Deluxe with Accumark brake. Currently I am using IMR 4064, mainly due to the universal adaptability for almost every rifle I have. Friday I will begin using Hogdon 4350 for my Weatherby 340 and Ruger 375. With the 340 this you have about 200 fps (about 2500fps)

Try Nosler Load Data. If you can't find what your looking for there, try some of the other bullet manufacturers, like Norma. Although Barnes does provide good load data on specific loads. Accuracy varies from powder to powder with different weights of bullet. I prefer 300 gr match. I use IMR 4064 due to its wide range of calibers and bullet eights it can be used with. I also am considering IMR 4350 or IMR 7828, both are very accurate and consistent. Nosler load data will show the most accurate powder for specific loads.
