I'm planing on having GA precision build a rifle soon and I can't for the life of me decide what caliber I want to go with. My heart was set on 28 nosler for some time, but now I'm trying to decide between 28 nosler and 300PRC. Another rifle maker (not gap) told me if I went with the 28 nos, they wouldn't give me an accuracy guarantee bc in their opinion there isn't any good factory ammo available. I'm not a reloader, and I'm beginning to think my options for factory 300 PRC would be less limited. The rifle will primarily be a long range hunting rifle. I would like to keep it in the 6-7.5 pound range. So far what I have in mind is
GAP Templar Hunter V2
Manners MCS-T with elite tac carbon fiber
Proof research Sendero (Gap recommended going Bartlein over proof bc of consistency) thought?
TriggerTech Primary

This will be my first custom rifle so I want to put enough thought into it that I don't wish I had done something differently.

That is quiet a good build list. When you say primarily a hunting rifle what game do you hunt? I mean a good just white tail caliber in the east can be slightly undergunned for Elk out west. I have had 28 Nosler and currently have a 300 PRC and I really like the PRC and there is ammo readily available. I am not sure what GAP is referring to when they say consistency of the Bart over the proof. However, both are good barrel choices but if you are looking for a rifle in that weight class a proof sendero light will get you there. I have several proof barreled rigs and have never had one issue concerning accuracy. My PRC is on a Mesa Ti action and proof with elite hunter stock and I am right at 7 lbs. Also don't over look the good ol' fashion 7mm RM and 300 Win as they have plenty of factory ammo options and they have been gettting it done for many, many years. Good luck!

If you're not a reloader 300 PRC all the way. To me the only real benefit (for non reloaded its huge) to the Hornady cartridges are the factory ammo options. The creedmoors and PRCs don't do anything better that other cartridges do, but all other cartridges are generally handicapped in the factory ammo department which gives Hornady a huge advantage. To me the 28 realizes it potential with 180 plus pills. I think you would have to go to copper creek or something like that to get loaded rounds in that class for the nos. 300 PRC and be happy.

I live in the east but this rifle will be for big game. Will be going out west often and to Alaska in 2021. I'm pretty set on the proof barrel. Aesthetically a proof carbon barrel and a manners carbon stock can't be beat in my opinion. Anything I can do to get weight down is also a plus. I have both a 300 win mag and a 7mm rem mag so I want to do something a bit different here. Cost of ammo isn't too much of s concern for me in a hunting rifle since I won't be shooting it a ton.

That's definitely the way I'm leaning

I do have to argue with you on the asthetics comment, a McMillan can be very sexy too.

Good luck with that! As soon as I get a new rifle I'm looking again? If you have 2 middle/large rifles now I would go BIG (338LM) or the like or smaller like a 6.5 X 284?
Why end up with 3 of almost the same thing?

I had GAP make me an Extreme Hunter in 6.5 SAUM (4S) & It's awesome!!! Not heavy, lots of performance, flawless fit and finish. All around great hunting rifle. Took 8 months to get but it's been worth it!!! Would buy again... in fact I keep thinking about another GAP for PRS.

This is a 'read between the lines' comment from GAP. They use about 10 times as many Bartlein barrels as they do Proof Research barrels. So they see the consistency in terms of more Bartlein barrels over a longer period of time without encountering any problems.

The extreme hunter is awesome for sure. They told me 10 months but I really didn't think that was terrible. I expected longer.

Yeah, I agree. I'm set on the proof barrel.
