I am curious to know from those who have been captured by the Hornady marketing machine what is the draw to the 300 PRC? Let's keep this civil. Are you attracted to the factory ammo options? The rifles chambered in it? Buy the Hornady hype?

Besides my personal interest of them creating brass to fire form in my chamber, I would add the following points that I believe are positive.
(1) std mag bolt face
(2) no belt
(3) increase in performance over the popular WM on same action and oal
(4) good case design including factory throating favor Long Range high b c bullets
(5) available, inexpensive, accurate factory ammo
(6) Better brass than most Hornady offerings

it is nice that its a more modern design and set up for the heavy for caliber bullets and twist barrels for those that don't want to go with a custom built 30 Nosler or 300 win mag.

I had one built.

I went back and forth between the 300 wm, 300 prc, and 30 nos. I was turned off of the 300 wm after a wm supporter compared the 30 nos and the 300 wm and declared them equals. After debating about it for awhile I was really leaning 30 nos. But I got realistic with myself. What am I gaining with the 30 nos? 50 FPS? Better brass? At the time ADG didn't make 30 nos brass either but there were rumors. But to build it right you need a custom reamer etc. And the final nail was my time is limited. I work 80-100 hours a week most of the time.

I was hoping that the 300 prc factory ammo would shoot as well as the factory creedmoor and 6.5 prc ammo I've seen shoot. As good as Hornady is at marketing I was pretty sure one of the better brass makers would pick it up also. So now I'm down the 50 FPS that the 30 nos produces over the 300 prc. My luck I would get the slowest barrel in history and I would only be able to hit 30-06 speeds haha.

At the end of the day the two main reasons were limited time, and my brother kept telling me how gay the prc was.

I would be just as happy with a 30 nos I'm sure.

Ps. My first kill with the prc.

I agree with everything Rich said about the .300 PRC. It's a modern case design, it's not too long, too short, too skinny, nor too fat. It works in standard long action magnums without needing a Lapua sized bolt face or action. It takes full advantage of modern long action mag boxes. It's setup from the start with a long throat and a fast twist for heavy, high BC bullets. Factory ammo is loaded to long overall lengths taking advantage of the case and it's high quality factory ammo. Hornady supports it, which means there will always be components and support for it. They typically push their cartridges hard and continue to back them.

I also support Hornady because they actually design cartridges like it's the 21st century and not 1960. They take full advantage of today's actions, magazine boxes, bullets, powders, and trends to make excellent cartridge designs. They may not be perfect or super spectacular, but they all work great, have ammo and components available, load data, support, and SAAMI specs that are very well thought out and designed. That's why the Creedmoors and PRCs are winning and gaining popularity, and that's why I support them. Yes, other cartridges like the 30 Nosler, 300 Win Mag, 300 RUM, etc. will do what the PRC does. They all are handicapped in some shape or form though. They either have poor support, poor SAAMI spec'd reamers, don't fit well in unmodified long action mag boxes, expensive components and ammo, and etc etc. The PRC fits in a nice middle ground where it's more than a Win Mag, but not as overbore and big as a 300 Norma or RUM. It can be used by deer hunter Bob with 180gr soft points, or Tactical Joe with 230 Hybrids. All from the same base rifle, with the same SAAMI spec chamber and twist rate, and with off the shelf components and/or ammo. That's what makes the Creedmoors and PRCs work and why people want them. They're here to stay. Yes marketing plays a huge role, but they obviously live up to the hype and obviously are succeeding.

Nice bull, Brandon. Was that with a Ridgeline?

So what I am hearing is all centered around factory rifles/ammo? Just want to be clear. The factory 30 Nosler in SAAMI form has almost the perfect freebore for the 215 Berger which has proven and continues to prove to be a great killer and most are 10 twist which also works great. I personally have played with 225s and 230s in faster twist barrels and I keep coming back to the 215. If you are building a rifle you do not need a custom reamer to throat the 30 Nosler the way you want and you can order any twist you want. When I built my PRC I was praying it would shoot one of the factory ammos. It hated both. The only bullet mine would shoot is the Berger 230. It is very accurate with that load but will not run with my better 30 Noslers. My newest 30 Nosler is the fastest I have build but the accuracy is lower so it is a mute point. For a custom build I will stick with the 30 Nosler. If I could buy a 300 PRC with a .5 moa guarantee with factory ammo it would be much more appealing.

Why is it that anyone who likes a Hornady product must have been duped by the Hornady marketing machine or the "marketing hype"? Do they market their products? Yes. Do they lie about what their products can do? No. I've never seen an add or article that claims that the PRC does anything that it can't do. They don't claim that its the fastest or the hardest hitting or anything along those lines. They say what it is, which is a properly designed, long range cartridge. It's not like they're inflating the BC numbers on their bullets, or exaggerating the velocity of their rounds.

I think everyone above here made a pretty good argument why the rounds are so popular, so I won't restate any of those reasons. But can we please stop attributing their success to "Marketing Hype"? Their products have been around long enough that if they weren't working they would not be successful. The fact that they are successful proves that they know what they're doing and that their products work as advertised. At this point you can't attribute their success to "hype".

If you want to turn this into an argument I'll bow out. I didn't start the thread to change anyone's mind I was curious as to why others were interested. It is in fact mostly hype. I've owned several 300 wms. I've owned several 30 Noslers. I have a 300 PRC. The 300 PRC has nothing on the other two when building a rifle. That is fact not opinion. I can completely appreciate those who want a great chamber with a good round in a factory rifle with good ammo. I can't appreciate those touting this as the next coming of Jesus. They do in fact claim it is better than several cartridges that it is in fact not better than performance wise. If we want to stick to factory ammo than SOME of their claims can be substantiated. If you wish to argue I'll not post here, in the thread I started again. Everyone in the thread has stated a reason and moved on. You for some season just had to try to argue.
