Hard to build a SAW on a magnum bolt face.
180 eld @ 2860 mv = aprx 1700 ft/lbs @ 700yds. Some folks are running the 180s on up close to 3000fps in the rem mag but mine shoots so good a recoils so mild @ 2860 it was a no brainier. Surpasses ballistics & ft/lbs energy of 140gr 6.5 pills mv 3150fps.

Throated correctly at their best in equal platforms they run with in the normal difference in barrels, my reamers will run them both over 3000 fps with a 180 Berger hunting with R26 and just shy of that with H1000. The SAUM brass quality lets you run it vs the WSM, I actually really like the WSM's but the component just aren't there.

Since the OP loads, how about split the difference and build a 7MM-300WSM?

How about Bertram brass for the 7 wsm? We've been running Winchester brass In this 7wsm with success.
Please explain to me how that improves anything? The shoulder on the 7 is already farther forward than the 300. In other words 7 has shorter neck. I dont see hoew necking the 300 down improves anythi g unless you go with a much shorter neck, and go through all the headache of brass forming, possibly neck reaming, and then trimming and wasteing components to forform for what? Just my thoughts. I havent heard a single bad round mentioned in the thread. They will ALL do the job. Why make a lot of extra work.

I mean, if your objective is to split the difference between a 6.5 creed and a 300 win (I believe it was a win not a rum) the rsaums and wsms pretty much fill all of the same roles as the 300. if you step into one of the real medium 7mms like the 7 mag .280 ackley or especially the .280 rem you can set up a gun that will be a lot more in between. you will mitigate a lot of recoil and likely end up with capacity to carry 1 extra cartridge vs the short fat rounds.

not certain on coal restrictions but I would imagine if you run the 168 vlds out of a 7mm mag or the 150? classic hunters you should be able to fit the mag, come up with a real great shooting cartridge that actually is in between the two other cartridges and will fit your bolt face.
+1 for 7 SAUM if you are reloading. +1 for the 7 RM if you are not reloading.

The shoulder is further forward on the 7 than the 300. A straight neck down of the 300 yields a slightly longer neck, and is a simple one step szing operation. Capacity is between the two. Also slightly thickens the neck which gives the opportunity to turn the necks to clean them up. No fireforming other than any other new brass. Brass is available anywhere. One of the easiest wildcats and solves the problem of brass shortages. Another plus is not everyone has one. Would be fun and practical.
Less performance, more work. I just bought lots of 7mm wsm. Can be done but other than oddity and brass shortage which may be ended, no good reason. Can make 7wsm from 300 wsm but requires fireforming etc.

7 SAUM would fit great in a tikka. Norma makes 300 saum brass. Neck it down. I have about 200 pieces necked down and fired once for sale.
