300 Sherman Shortmag (SS)

300 WSM vs 300 SS. Both with R26, both short action, short mag fed. Normal hunting barrel lengths, 22-24" long. 208-215's.

Go.

Seeing as a 208 or 215 will be buried pretty far in the 300 WSM case to mag feed, 300 SS makes perfect sense honestly, especially with ADG making the brass (7SS, just have to neck it up)

I just was wondering what people were thinking when they say mag length since there are so many options.
I've worked loads up for a friends 300 wsm with 208 and my 300ss. The 208 is really buried in the wsm and took about 4 more grains rl26 for about same speed. My 300ss is definitely my go-to for my most dependable rifle as far as accuracy an performance.

Yeah I consider 2.950ish to be mag fed for most short action rounds (barring obviously the WSSM, BR, and 223/6.5/6.8 variants of course)

2.99, accurate mags. I concur that the SS case is more efficient. Question deduces down to is it a wash if R26 levels the playing field despite the WSM losing capacity to a buried bullet it still has more capacity to begin with??

Additionally the WSM can be had in factory offerings which could be beneficial at times.

Full disclosure. I like the SS. I want one for my TL3, debating 7mm vs 300 but it seems the 215 is the most effective killer. However, when I look at simplicity and some velocity reports in SA's with R26 I have to consider the 300 WSM too.

I was thinking along the same lines as I was typing my post. Other than obvious length restraints the other thing holding the wsm back is good brass. If ADG made WSM brass then it may be closer to flipping a coin and picking your winner, although I'd probably go SS still myself.
