Just an update for those interested in using this 6.5 Grendel on deer. My hunting buddy took his son out yesterday for our youth rifle season and he was able to harvest a young buck. He was shooting his dads custom built AR-15 using the Hornady Black ammo loaded up with the 123 eld-m. Shot was about 50 yards quartering to. Shot was behind the shoulder and it destroyed the lungs, then traveled on into the abdomen. The deer ran about 50 yards and expired. I wasn't able to get any pictures of the damage but it was extensive.

Guessing 50 yards velocity/energy was similar to a 6.5x55 Swede out at 200 yards. I wondered about the ELD-M working at a lower velocity maybe 2400fps. Thank you for the good report.

I would use a general out to 200 yards no problem. There is a video of a youth shooting elk I think at 500 yard. Took a couple shots but downed it. If I lived back east and only had 50-150 yards to shoot I wouldn't hesitate with that round

They do work great. My brother has taken a few deer plus a huge red sheep, and mouflon neither went far. I actually got two of them myself for this years season.
Using the 99gr hammers.

Keep us posted on how the hammers work. I'm thinking about loading some of those for my wife and dad.

I would not hesitate to shoot a deer out to 300 yards or so with either of my 6.5 Grendel's. Last season was the first time I used one to kill a deer. I used the 120 Speer Gold Dot pushed to 2550 fps with IMR 8208 out of the 20" barrel to shoot a deer at 111 yards. DRT Shot was to the center of the chest as it faced me. Bullet destroyed the heart and lungs and penetration was about 20" with the bullet exiting the belly, as I was shooting at a downward angle from a shooting house, with a thumb size hole. I will be using an AR with an 18" barrel using the 120 Sierra Pro Hunter running 2550 fps this season.

I've shot a couple with a 100 grain nbt and the 120 sst. Both ran around 20 yards with heavy blood trails with sprayed organ tissue.

Also looking to try the black stuff.

I was a little worried about getting the velocity high enough for the monos.
