Mark 4 vs VX3i LRP

I was told that the VX3i LRP is what replaced the Mark 4. Is the VX3I LRP a better scope than the Mark 4? If you could get either for the same price which one would you buy? Thanks

I was under the impression that the mk4 was still being sold to the military. the newer leupolds look and feel like chicom knockoffs.

I have both. The glass seems identical. The lrp has updated turrets that match the reticle and a zero stop.
I'd take the lrp if both were an option

Thanks, that's what I needed to hear. I called Leupold and they told me that the LRP glass was significantly better than the Mark 4. The guy told me that the Mark 4 glass is more like VX2 glass. I looked through both at the store and they seemed the same but I was wondering how they are outside in low light. The clicks seemed more positive on the Mark 4

They're both amazing in lowlight. I've went out on a full moon night and could read writing on my target at a 100. Better than the Zeiss, Burris and sightron scopes I own

This ^^ never was impressed with the MK4. It seemed fragile to me. Never understood why my buddies used them or why our snipers had them. IMPO the newer luepolds have really stepped up their game and kept with the competition, and I am not a luepold fan at all.

In today's scope market mark 4 series have been left in the dust. The LRP series targets more of the long range hunter/varminter types and finally they have stating matching reticles with turrets. There are a lot of better options now for the money spent vs. return

Not arguing but what do you mean "matching reticles with turrets"?

Old tech-mk4. They were alright during their time. You got to know that they were basically replacing the Unertl scopes. After decades of that scope, some people got the mk4. In comparison it was an upgrade. Luckily the Marine Corps went a different way, and decided to go with S&B.
This is coming from a guy that dislikes leupold products in general. However you're right, the parts like the diopter would break and the turrets wouldn't work or at best not track whatsoever. A lot of that had to do with quality control and where they sourced their small parts.

The field, deployment or otherwise, is not where you can always control how easy on your gear you are.

Some models have the reticle in MILs and the turrets in MOA. I never understood this
