Thompson Center compass

I had one, probably best $ for $ gun out there. Ended up getting a CA Ridgeline and sold the compass to a buddy who really likes it for the money.

Bought the same gun last year with rebates from Cabela's. Put the Mcarbo spring kit in and have 2 1/2 lbs. pull. Killed 3 deer so far and all of them died where they stood. I love this piece and if I didn't already have the other available calibers I would buy more. I reload.

If the compass is 1/2 the gun my venture in 300 win mag is it would still be an excellent gun.after all the $$$ i spent on guns it blows my mind that the cheapest gun I have ever bought is easily the most accurate.it pretty much shoots everything under and inch and quite a fews loads under 1/2" .its not pretty but it has became my favorite gun .

Not sure if you've seen Johnny's reloading bench on YouTube. Does a great job with in depth reloading and load development for the tc compass in 6.5 cm and 300wm

they are cheaply made but so far I am impressed with the accuracy. They'll make a suitable hunting rifle but way too light weight to serve as a bench rifle.

I have only began testing loads with the .243 and have groups less than 1\2" on the 4th step of a ladder test on unpublished powder (superformance), Speer 85gn hot core bullets, starline brass and Winchester primers.

the first thing I did was modify the trigger pull down to 2-3lbs finding that the stock screws were loose upon disassembly.

The barrel was dirty and requires cleaning before the first shot can be fired.

DH,
You're saying it won't make a good bench rifle!? ;)
Couldn't help it. What parts on it are cheaply made? What would you improve other than trigger? Thanks

The stock material and overall lines/flow is really about the only complaint I have , but the creedmor isn't one to punish the shoulder. Length is actually perfect for me.
If a company developed a fiberglass drop in for it I would consider a swap...but at this point even though I dont like the look...other than hand loads I wouldn't change anything....

Grandpa's words of wisdom come to mind...if it ain't broke...don't fix it.

I honestly had the thought the other day....**** this thing is light weight ...its cheap so I don't have to baby it...wouldn't it be some skit to take a $300 gun on a sheep hunt and be successful.

I dream big lol

The TC Compass in 6.5cm is one of the most accurate rifles I have...it shoots 1/2 MOA. I paid $225 for it after rebates. But man is it fugly and clunky. I painted the stock OD to try to help...alas. The action is just terribly sloppy. The mags/followers are flimsy...just waiting for a failure there. The bolt handle is uncomfortable for the stiff cocking action. The barrel profile doesn't accommodate the muzzle threads, leaving almost no shoulder for a brake or other device.

All in all, despite my gripes, I couldn't be happier w the $200 rifle. It would make a great truck gun. But I wouldn't be caught dead with it on a backcountry once in a lifetime hunt.

I have no room to complain, I paid $20 for it >>> https://www.longrangehunting.com/threads/i-got-my-first-6-5-cm-for-20.201958/page-3
