Asking for a friend. Out of the models in the Tikka t3x line-up which one should he look at? He does big woods hunting mainly so id say most shots are likely inside 200 yards but he does hunt with me and we have shots upwards of 400 yards. This is not a caliber discussion but rather which model in the Tikka line-up he should get? He is either wanting to go on the cheaper side of the line-up and then order an aftermarket stock (such as B and C) OR go for a model which has a good stock from the get go (if that exists?). I know nothing about Tikka.

If the stock is an issue on a T3x, they do make the Forest model or the Hunter series for more money. I could never pull the plug on one of their black plastic stocks even knowing the rifle would shoot fine. I'd have to replace the stock too.

Mine is the T3X superlight stainless from Cabelas. 7MM Rem Mag. I then went to mountain tactical for bottom metal, trigger spring and limbsaver recoil pad. Rifle shot 1/2 moa before I added that stuff and does after. So I can say you really don't need any of the things I added. But I loved every one of the upgrades.I do recommend the limbsaver recoil pad. It made a huge difference in perceived recoil for me.

the half moa is with factory Hornady ELDX 162s. I have all the items to reload, but never got around to it for this rifle.

I have the Hunter model with a very nice wood stock and the Lite with plastic, both T3X's. Both shoot 3/4 MOA and less when I do my part. Get the $12 trigger spring, it helps. I will add that if you get a heavy hitter caliber the light rifles will get your respect. Dollar for Dollar, one of the best bargains out there I would say.

Not many stock options from the factory in your more standard hunting style stock. They're all "plastic" or wood options that I can think of. One of the better factory plastic stocks in my opinion. The B&C stock you mentioned would be a big upgrade.

A couple models with a chassis system:
Tikka Tac A1
Tikka TSR

A nicer wood stock option;
Tikka T3x Sporter

*Just mentioning them, probably not what you're after.
Heavy & expensive

I saw where AG Composites is getting into the Tikka stock market. They have shorter lead times than the others and they should have a couple of great options for Tikka stock replacement.

If money is not an issue, consider a Sako. The Tikka is somehow the cheaper line of Sako. It is always a good idea to get the "real deal".

This here is what you want

perfect size, weight, balance, fast handling with open sights if necessary. Or, if you can find one, one of the Cabela's special edition Boar hunter models. they came with a camo stock, 21" fluted heavy barrel and very good express sights. if you're hunting big woods, these are what you want.
