Best Barrel Cleaning Proceedure ??

I have a new custom rifle about to arrive and I want too get some opinions about the best cleaning proceedures and products ??

The barrel is a 30 " Hart Stainless 1-10 ? 338 cal

I have read stories from different people about diasters with different cleaning solvents. I just want to take real good care of this baby !

Hi use a bronze brush saturated with montana extreem 50BMG make sure you nutralizee the solvent on your brush or it will desolve. It is harmless to barrels if left in for long peeriods and will remove powder and projectile fouling.

The VRA stocks it and I can give you their details if you want.

Anyway who did you get to build your rifle is it a 338 Edge and what are the components and I hope I helped with your decision on wich way to go.

Thanks for the tip on the cleaning.

I ended up using Defensive Edge for the build. The rifle was a used sf 1 sendero to base on. Shawn then has put a 30" 5.6 d /tapered sendero profile Hart heavy fluted barrel stainless barrel on it. Wyatt centre feed 4 " ext mag box, fully bedded, rem 700 blue printed and accurized. DE muzzle break, DE adjustable stock cheekpiece, fluted bolt, badger tactical bolt handle, harris s series bipod with pod lock, 40 moa NF rail, LW NF rings and 5-22 x56 NF NXS Npr1. Used with NF PDA support and Kestrel. It has been cut to seat the 265 RBBT wildcat at 4" OAL and 300 smk at 3.8 OAL. Shawn is testing this week. Rifle is teflon mat black metal with OD green stock work.

Hi the 338WBX is awsome the first groups at 300 yards are 3 shot and under 3/4".

Your rifle build sounds similar to what we discussed.
I am waiting fot my 265gr Wildcats to arrive.

I am also waiting on my lawton action then the match barrel will be fitted not the fireform barrel.

first get the carbon/powder fouling out with something like GM top engine cleaner. use a coated rod and nylon brush. always push the tip through the muzzle and take the patch off or brush off. leaving it on when and dragging it back through only redeposits fouling back in the bore. after carbon/powder fouling is cleaned out, use wipeout foam cleaner. this is the sliced bread of copper removal products. after you let the foam sit for several hours, just push several dry patches through and your done. no scrubbing with a brush is needed.

I would add this to the post above:

If you use the Wipe-Out method, buy the Wipe-Out "Accelerator". You just push one or two wet patches through the bore BEFORE applying the Wipe-Out bore foam. Using the Accelerator, the fouling will be removed much faster. A single bottle of Accelerator will last much longer than many bottles of bore foam and is very cost effective.

I've become a Wipe-Out and Wipe-Out Accelerator fan. I patch out all the gunk with patches soaked in Wipe-Out Accelerator until they start to come out clean. This usually means 4 or 5 patches.

Next I spray in Wipe-Out foam and let it do its work for around 3 or 4 hours. After it's soaked for those 3 or 4 hours and the barrel still containing the Wipe-Out foam I use a nylon brush and scrub the barrel. Then I patch it out clean which requires around 4 or 5 patches. DONE!

I'm not sure if scrubbing with a nylon brush really adds any additional benefit. However, when I've looked at the inside of the barrel with a bore scope after I've cleaned in this manner, it sure lools good. It's reallly no more time consuming, but it seems to work for me.

BTW, I've given up on bronze brushes and have switched to nylon brushes. They work really well.

i have not used a nylon brush. wipe out takes at most 2 sittings with 4-5 patches after each.

Anyone try Patch-Out? Its the same company that makes Wipe-Out..

I use Wipe-Out and the Accelerator, and they work great as described: but I have two caveats:

1. Wipe-Out dissolves many stock finishes very quickly. Be careful.

2. Accelerator leaks out of any bottle I've tried, even with the original red inner seal tight in the original bottle. Double bottle and double bag it if you have to pack it for airline travel.

I've used patch out and it is just as simple as the wipe out foam. It just works quicker because it is twice as concentrated. Just soak a patch,push it through, let it sit for atleast 6 hours and then patch it out. I have found that if you clean atleast every 30 rounds you only have to apply it once to keep the barrel clean.

Solvents

Hi Wipe Out and Patch Out are not redily available here in Australia and can not be sent by post. If you have a match barrel they are notbrequired as the carbon and jacket fouling is easily removed with Montana 50BMG. It works and does not drynthe surface off the barrel like the wipe out type cleaners and the GM engine cleaner is carsonagenic causing cancer with exposure.

Just try the Montana 50BMG you won't need anything else and does not remove your finish on you're stoky amd barreled action like the above mentioned solvents WILL.

Rifles on the go

Hi I actually have 4 on the go.

The first is the Lawton 7000 in 338WBX with a Folding A5L and fluted Lawton barrel.

The second is me Remington model7 I have fitted a muzzle break snd am building a stock it has a folding mechanism and a M4 colapsable but and pistol grip with an alloy block msking the adapter for the Ace stock parts and a machined laminated forend.

The third is a Brno Fox that I picked up for $100 so I fitted a Remington Sendero 7mm barrel at 17" then fluted it and chambered it for a shortened 7mmTCU so it feeds through the factory removal 222 magazine. I am painting the action and barrel OD green and fitting it to an uninleted Boyds Blaster stock.

The third is my new F Class rifle it is on a Lawton 7500 short mag action dual port. it will be a 6 and 7mm switch barreled rifle.

The first cartridge is a 6mm/55SMc the other is a 7mm called 7mmBSM. It has a 60 degree shoulder reduced case taper and a .425" long neck. I am making the stock out off rare Australian timbers laminated 1/2" thick placed horizontaly with epoxy and carbon fyber between each layer.
