What bullet should I try in my 30-06

I had good success with ELD-M's and X's in the 178gr to 208 out of my 30/06... 55.3 gr of H4831,,, nice mellow load...

I did the 0.3 gr ladder loads to find a good one in the lower category then max charge,,, I don't remember what the max charge load was off hand,,, but it was to much for my shoulder...

I'll be testing some 150 grain'ers this winter to see how they perform...

Nosler Partions since I like to set things up for the hunt...

Cheers from the North

As I stated in another thread, all I have ever used for more than 50 years has been Remington Core-Lokt. I use 150 grain on deer and 165 on elk. You really wanna get pummeled go up to 180 grains or 220, but in my experience you don't need it. My rifles seem to like the 165 grainers from Remington. I find that many 30-06 rifles like the 165 to 168 grainers best but its just an observation on my part and no real scientific proof. I did shoot once some winchesters Silvertip in 168 grain that was gifted to me and both rifles shot sub-moa at 200 yards. Now this are just plain factory rifles nothing fancy that most people have on this forum, and they are MOA with the Remington Core-lokt which I use all the time 200 yards. You just need to find what your rifle likes.

I just finished a load development for a mid 70's Ruger M77 30.06 that I've owned for years but was kind of neglected. I developed two sub .5 moa loads with Nosler 180 gn ballistic tips, one above 2500 FPS and one around 2650 FPS.

The faster one is
Nosler BT 180 gn
H-4350, 54.7 gns
Hornady brass
Fed GM210M primers
OAL 3.320

I went through a ton of combinations, and this was my best at .460 moa. I really wanted the Nosler ABLR 190 bullets to work, but couldn't find the recipe.

57g of H4350 with 180g Hornady flat base works in spades in my Rem 700.

Keep the barrel clean of copper and powder fouling.
Sorry 180 gr flat base hornady interlock.

My load
Winchester brass
57 gr h4350
2825 +\~ FPS
Hornady 180 gr flat base interlock
20 ths off lands
Federal 210 primers
Have .002 th of bullet pinch
Gun has 1:10 twist with 24 inch barrel 4 groove factor gun.

Shot a lot of different rounds from 150 to 200
Gr. For what ever reason the guns I've shot like the 180 grain bullet and the flat base with the 1:10. With the design of the interlock they just shoot good. Tried everything from Sierra to Nosler but the Hornady held tight out to 400 yards. Good killing bullet with nice expansion. Very effective on whitetail and mule deer. Should work nice on elk.
My everyday carry gun for hunting out to 400 yards.

Hey guys I've got a bergera b14 Hunter in 30-06 that is super finicky with ammo. I've tried 165 gmx, 165 interlocks, 180 ballistic tips, 178 eldx. Tried them with imr 4350, h4350 and the heavy two with h-4831sc. Also tried rl16. Anyways the only bullet I've been a able to get to shoot was a 190 gr nosler custom competition with h4831sc. It shoots around .7 moa. It's not a hunting bullet but my wife shot her black bear and deer with it last year and it killed them both very well. Both shots were around 250 yards. Anyways its looking like I'm going to be borrowing her rifle for an up coming elk hunt I've got. I was really wanting to use a bullet I'd have more confidence. Are there any other bullets that you guys know of that I should try? Maybe something similar? Would an accubond be worth a shot? I was hoping the 180 ballistic tips would be build close to them but they didn't shoot well. All these other bullets are around 1.5-2" at 100 yards. Should I just go hunt elk with these target bullets?

A lot of good info here but I would go over your rifle and scope mounting. Break it down, fully clean and rebuild with the correct torque specs for your gun and mounts. Then you're base is set. It'll only take a couple hours and you can go from there. My Krieger barrel -06 loves 180 Accubonds over RL 22 at 2800 fps. Hope this helps.

as a as a couple of other posters have implied try a simple flat base bullet buy a major manufacturer a core loct I'm not a fan of the silvertips but even that would be worth a shot ,Speer at least they used to make a locked bullet and Hornady interlock might work as well.

My advice don't overthink it

Just shoot straight
