X5i

Well as far as glass...they may be the same--in quality...i like the turret system 500x better...setting the turret and zero stop is not the most user friendly on the X5..I also prefer capped windage on a hunting long range scope.
Understood thanks

I have a couple X5's and they are awesome scopes. Glass is great and they track perfectly. The elevation turret is a little too tall and I wish the turrets locked, but have had no issues with them moving. I bought these from Doug when Camerland was blowing out the non-illuminated BRM reticles.
That said, I only have one other MOA scope and I'm not sure I'll be keeping them... way too used to thinking in mils.

I have 9 X5i scopes and 1 z8. I much prefer the X5i. In low light situations I see better through the X5i and the turret adjustments are superior. My Z8i is the 2.3x18x56P. It is for sale. If interested call me at 478-957-5213 Gary Campbell

If they build the z8 like the z6... and I assume they do, they are unrivalled for clarity.
The kicker for me is how tough/ resilient they are. I have fallen ON my guns on rocks repeatedly and they hold zero like nothing happened.

I almost went to nightforce for their reputed toughness. Theis ad says you can throw it and it'll hold zero. Watched their video and they do throw the scope... onto grass AFTER TAKING IT OFF THE RIFLE (QD rings)
Laughable.

I'd trust high end swaro thrown down the mountain attached to the gun. That's the real test and they've passed repeatedly.

Sorry for sidetracking, I'm just a very satisfied user and wanted to pass my experience along

I have Zeiss, Swarovski, Hensoldt, Leupold, Burris, Nikon and more; all the way down to some "Trashco Euro-Class" glass (Yes, that line of Tasco was good!)
And I am not averse to hunting with one of my old Weavers.

Seems like the turrets are pretty solid like it would take a pretty good bump to move them? Just basing this off reviews on YouTube etc...

So what does the z8 have that the z6 doesn't is it really worth an additional 1000 or so bucks?

I had it narrowed down to the z6 and the X5i. After lots of research I feel the X5i is the scope I want. As of now I'm undecided on the reticle.

My buddy has a few z5s w/ ballistic turret and I'm not overly impressed with them this is one of the reasons I started looking past the z6, the turrets appear to be very similar. Maybe I'm wrong

No one is making this decision easier that's for sure ha!!! How much moa elevation can I get with the z8?
JMack there is quite a lot of difference in the MOA of elevation between the X5, Z8 and Z6. You haven't mentioned, I don't think, what magnification you are looking at but here are the figures for each in the 3-18 range.
X5 3.5-18x50mm inch @100y 122 or 116 MOA
Z8 2.3-18x56mm inch @ 100y 64.8
Z6 3-18x50mm inch @ 100y 64.8
