New LRH glass

If you think I'm a supporter for Leupold, I'm not... But in the context of what the OP is asking for, the Leupold it is a viable option and the S&B is not...

BTW ...I also own a Kahles 10-50, a Swaro X5, two NX8's, an ATACR and a Mark 6...

You took that wrong. I have no idea if your a Leopold supporter. I just stated that I've had a bunch of problems with leupold in the past and I don't trust them to work when I need them. I don't have one of the nx8s yet and won't for awhile since I don't currently have a need for one but would like to try one out.

I have an ATACR on my Desert Tech HTI and I love it. That's why I'm really eyeing the NX8. Seems about perfect other than heavy. I've looked through an Athlon Ares and was less than impressed.

Maybe there's just too many options out there lol.
I wish the NX8 had been available this spring when I tried to skimp on optics for a kids gun, the shv I bought was a huge disappointment. And I would give you a good price on it, lol. I do have the 1-8 NX8, different beast though.
My take on the NX8 though, it is too pricey for a niche scope. I loathe when a company slips a middle of the road product into their lineup. For the simple fact it'd be rare you get a fair review of the product. For a buyer spending his first 2K on an optic, it is the best thing since canned beer, and we know that is not possible. Regardless of cost of your atacr, it will never be on that level, so you get the " It is what is for the cost" BS.
If I am going to lug a heavy optic around, it is going to be what I am used to shooting.

Hello Folks

I am looking for a new scope to put on the 300 PRC.
I really like the idea of a highly variable scope.
I already have an ATACR on my HTI and it's amazing but kind of heavy, and a bit over my budget for this rifle.
I'd prefer to be in the $1500 range. Used is fine.

Must haves:
Good FOV at bottom power, MOA, SFP, clear and repeatable. 80 minutes of internal adjustment for elevation.

Thanks
And you will probably need it! Twice....

Assembled in USA. Not necessarily "Made in USA".

That is true for many scopes, smart phones, trucks and even food!...

When you sell 10X or more scopes than S&B in the USA at price points from $500-$5000. You are going to see more warranty issues...More is more.
Of course, when you sell top tier $2500+ optics and most of them are HEAVY.. mil spec, mil-dot reticle, FFP, tactical scopes. You will see less warranty issues. Duh...

I agree that Leopold has had some quality issues and that is why I mentioned the warranty. They stand behind their product.

Soooo.... you had an issue with a less than $1000 Vari-X III 6.5-20x50 LR. You had an issue and Leupold fixed it.... Did you really expect it to be as reliable as a $3000 S&B??

I guess the OP's $1500 price point was lost on you.... The OP, is trying to balance needs vs wants vs $$ spent just like most of us.

BTW-One more thing... What scope did you suggest he should get???? Oh yeah, you didn't.

Sometimes it's not "is what it is" but it is what you can get at any price...

This being a LR hunting forum I always consider that weight is a major issue. This is especially true on the newer design small magnum calibers. Putting a 40oz scope on a 7 lb goat/sheep rifle is silly and finding a 24-28 oz, moa, sfp, ill ret that does everything the ATCR or Steiner M7Xi does isn't going to happen either, at any price.

So we make the best compromise we can live with. Sometimes it works out well and than again, sometimes it doesn't.

I would not hunt with a 40 oz scope, unless I could just pull it out of my truck for the shot.
You seemed to wake up this am in a confrontational mood. I just in a round about way stated the NX8 would not be my choice of a hunting optic.
Carry on.

A March 2.5-25x52 will do all that.......just saying. They're way out his price range though.

Maybe the leupold vx5hd 4-20 with the new cds zl3 turret? I really want to try one i think it will be the scope i put on my next build when i figure out what thats gonna be

Eta: its slightly above ops price range and the turret is called t-zl3

Sorry If I seem to come off that way. Didn't mean to. (I'll go grab a second cup of coffee now...LOL)

It just frustrates me to see that many the responses are not being what The OP should buy but more on what he shouldn't purchase, for what ever reason, and most of these responses disregard SShultz laundry list of "Must haves". Which at any price is a pretty hard nut to to crack...

So rather than beat down on a product or worse yet, beat down on each other we should focus on helping SShultz make an informed choice and not confusing him to a point where there seem to be no good choices at all...Agree??

Lol, yes, we are good, my pick early on was a VX6 HD. Whether welcome or not, I voiced my opinion on the NX8. But I really like NF optics.
I so happen to be around enough guys that make bad optics choices, including myself. Sometimes we can get out of them unscathed, most of the time not though. I have a hard time even asking 60% of paid price once I move on.
I was not here to condemn any brand of optic, even though I have some stout opinions on a few.

Yeah, I pretty much mirror everything you said. I picked up the new moar 4-32 NX8 (28 Nosler) but I haven't had a chance to get behind it yet. I sure wish it was SFP for hunting, but I can deal with it.
If the Zeiss V6 had a ZMOAi T20 ret I would have picked it instead of the NX8.

Another possible choice for SShultz, as was mentioned before, is the Zeiss V4 6-24x50 with the new ZMOAi T20 reticle. It checks all the boxes except the highly variable one.

Elkbelter has a badass deal on an X5 right now in the classifieds. If my Daniel Defense sells I'll have a much better budget, and if his is still available that's what I'll buy. I am eyeing the Zeiss V6 and the VX6HD as well. Both seem like solid options. I've had them both in my hand but I'm not sure if I want the higher power Zeiss or better field of view with the Leupold. I suppose I'll just have to see what comes along.

Hello Folks

Like the title indicates, I'm looking for a new scope to put on the 300 PRC that I'm putting together. I really like to idea of a highly variable scope. What do y'all recommend? Pros and cons of what I'm looking at?

Thanks

How tied are you to SFP? If you're willing to try a FFP, give the Bushnell LRTSi a try. Superb scope at any price but absolute bargain at the prices they can be had for now. They are reliable and track well. Glass is above their price point.

With FFP, you'll never get your wind hold wrong because you forgot to be at the correct magnification. If you're concerned about seeing the reticle at low X, Bushnell did a really good job on their illumination.

To second the quality of the glass on this scope, it's great. You can find second hand lrhsi 4.5-18 Bushnell models that have the "ring of death" that encircles the center cross hair for quick shots at low power, a lot of hunters really like the reticle. I believe it's called the G2H reticle.
