Vx5hd with Seekins low rings ??

I have a Remington 700 awr rifle in 7mm rem mag with a 20 moa base. I'm about 5 weeks out from my hunt. I am about to purchase a vx5hd in 3-15x44 and need to get my rings right the first try so I have as much time as possible to get some practice with this new gun. This is going to be a hunting only rifle. Here are my ??s.

What height rings I need and what rings to get? I was thinking lows.

I get a decent discount with Leupold and was looking at there Backcountry cross slot rings for almost 70$ but find alot of info about them.

But I know Seekins are good and can get them around 120$ ish.
Others have gotten thought but narrowed it to these..... For now.
I'm trying to get the scope as low as possible because the stock I have has a low comb
I'm open to all opinions etc.

The lows will work for you without a problem. The best price I've seen on Seekins rings is Lanbos Armory for $106. You have to add them to the cart for the price.

Get rid of the 20moa base and use Hawkins low 30mm hybrid rings. Best setup I've used so far they are 25moa cant built in one piece base/rings

I will check them out and give it some thought. Problem is then I wasted money on a base that a can't return cause it was installed.

You can disregard my last reply. I just ordered a set. Already. Seems like the lows will clear a 50mm scope so should be good to go. I found them on sale and are same cost as Seekins and will save me weight so why not right. Plus I get a level.

Thanks again. I'm sure I will be happy with them. I completely forgot about them when shopping I was so focused on the Seekins cause that's what I have on all my rifles now.

The Hawkins Hybrid rings are by far my favorite rings to use. But I'm not sure they are going to work for you with a VX5 and a long action. Unlike the Talley lightweight Hawkins can not be turned around, they only run one way because of the built in 25moa. And I thought they were for a SA only. I may be way off here so you might call Hawkins to confirm. Their Tactical rings are nice too but the lows aren't very low, Seekins will get you the lowest. Not raining in your parade just trying to help you out in time crunch!

The hawkins should work fine- I mounted a VX5HD with them on a Christensen Ridgeline 300wm last night with no issues.

Sykes is correct thought you MUST make sure you get the correct action length.

My only concern would be the limited mounting area on the VX5 for the front ring. Might limit eye relief adjustment with the Hawkins. Leupold has all the measurements on their site. I'd check before installing.

To answer your original question, I'm running the seekins low on my VX5 on a short action with a #2 Savage prefit, plenty of clearance. I have a nightforce SHV 4-14 on another in the seekins low rings with a Savage heavy varmint barrel, it's really close but still clears it. If you look at where I have mine mounted for my eye relief, I don't think it would work on a long action with the front ring mounted directly over the mounting screws. The one downside to these is the limited mounting space.

Thanks for the heads up. They had a long action selection in the drop down so I'm hoping they should work. My only concern in the eye relief. I was reading the vx5s like to be further back which is harder with 1 piece rings. We will see they already shipped and scope is in route too.

That makes sense well I guess I will find out in a week. if I need to I will put my base back on and head to local gun store in a pinch.

I got it all mounted up just two weeks before my hunt. There is literally maybe a 1/16" or adjustment for eye relief i got lucky and it's right in that sweet spot for me. Thanks for the help guys. These rings and scope combo are awesome. I got a rough zero with some 162 ELDx and 160 accubonds not to happy with how either shot. Might try a heavy bullet,anyone have any recommendations for a rem 700 7mm rem mag with 1/9.25 5r rifling

If you are running factory ammo specifically I would try HSM 168gr Bergers or Barnes 139gr LRX
