they are exactly the same off center , my point of this post is to show the reason for choosing a diamond shape pattern , to me it just seems that it is easier to see when one quadrant , is larger than the rest

in the next 4 post each gets a little farther off center , but both equally off in the same direction

i get better results , when doing load workups when i know im shooting ( or at least aiming ) at my smallest point possible

aim small, miss small

next time your out and you have the option , try putting 10 in both and see what ends up being the smaller group size

The best shape is based on the type of site used. A round target is best for an aperture
(Peep site). A diamond shape is easiest to center if using a recital because you have 4 points of reference. A square target works best if using a high magnification scope and you want group size only and are not interested in dead center. because you can place the vertical and horizonal stadia on the edge of the target and look for a light gap between the stadia and the target surface.

So in my opinion there is a best target shape for the type of shooting you intend to do and the type of sites on the weapon.

My preference is a diamond shaped target for siting in with a scoped rifle/pistol.
And a dot for long range shots to train the eye to look for a spot on the game to aim at.

The right shape target can make a huge difference in ones shooting depending on the siting system used.

depends on your scope reticle
if you just have cross hairs/duplex style then for me the diamond is easier to line up with-- but some of my rifles have a circle or horseshoe reticle, thus the circle target is easier to center on than the diamond

thanks, both good input , added a perspective i failed to consider

i had a hard time , pixeling out, on those drawings , had to go plain duplex

my focus was mostly directed at insuring when doing load development workups that i keep my shooting as consistent as my efforts in reloading , in attempt to prevent adding a +/- 1/4 MOA ( in who knows what direction i was off ) to the groups im basing my reloading changes on

One big must with a diamond or square target is you must hang them absolutely plum/level or they are no good.
