Center Point Amped/Heat/Patriot 415

In order to hunt on the base I live on, you have to qualify with your bow. Now the qualification isn't difficult, however you have to do it from a stand, a stand that is at a height that is much higher than any height I would climb to. So any mistakes I make with my feet on the ground were magnified 100 times. I think people 100yds away could hear my arrow bouncing on my rest as I was drawing it back!
My buddy had a crossbow with him, so I asked him if I could qualify with that so I didn't get shut out. I was able to place that bolt anywhere I wanted to. It was like shooting a rifle, hell sighting in a scope makes more sense to me than "Chasing the Arrow"! I'm hooked.
Now a few buddies of mine bought Parker Crossbows when they were going out of business. Since I didn't partake, I set out to purchase one. Then sticker shock kicked in. Why the hell are these things $2K? Now I had to find a budget bow, that can get the job done.

So I tuned to Wal Mart, I found a CenterPoint Patriot 415. I did some research and found out that Center Point is owned By Crossman and supposedly made in the US. Crossman also purchased Ravin, so some technology sharing may result from the purchase. I called Crossman to figure out what's the difference between the AMPED/Patriot and Heat 415. It's just the Camouflage. I did research and the reviews of the Centerpoints were all favorable.
I bought it (330.00 with my wife's discount) put it together and took it to the range, out of the box with the factory scope, this thing will put bolt on top of bolt at 20 and 30 Yards. I purchased some 20" Carbon Express Pile drivers and went back to Wal Mart and bought 150gr Shwackers. They came with practice heads. Went to the range and can shoot a 6" group at 50. This thing is pretty awesome. I have my eye on a 8 point Piebald that I plan on using the shwackers on next week. For around 400.00 for bow, bolts and broadheads, you can have a bow that is accurate and probably realistically shoots at 360 FPS. For those on a limited budget and want a bow that is very capable of putting meat on the table the CenterPoint 415's are a great option. I will post my hunt results, wish me luck!

I also wonder why some of the xbows are 2k... In 2013 I purchased a Barnett BCXtreme, it was advertised as 365fps, but that is with a 400gr arrow.. It is very accurate, and will put one on top of another with a solid rest, it is amazing how accurate they are and how powerful. That Center Point xbow you have seems to be very good, a lot of people have great reviews of them, you should be stacking deer up this season.

Got skunked this weekend, going to try midweek and next weekend. Will post results.

First off 150 grain swhackers are the best but how u go from putting bolt on top of bolt to 6" at 50 yds? That's pretty pathetic.....my ripper 415 pounds the bullseye at 80 yds with same broadhead but with Easton bloodlines

Lol good for you William Tell! The Center of my block is about 5x6 and it holds with in that area.

That's why I chose them! You shooting of a bench? I'm using a monopod, since I can't carry a bench with me while hunting.
So I take it, you like the Ripper 415? Write something up on it. Might help someone out looking to get into Crossbows with out dropping a bunch of coin.

I'm off to purchase an AMPED 415 today from Dunhams. For 313.75 out the Door. and I've been shooting crossbows for 20 years.. Excal, Parker, Scorpyd If I cant get better than 6" groups at 50 yards its going back I know that for sure!
But I'm assuming this is the FIRST TIME you've ever shot a crossbow. Am I correct?

It's my first one, I shot my buddy's Parker and decided I wanted one. I zero'd it in well enough to put a bolt in the vitals of a deer at 30. Not sure if folks shoot them off benches for groups, but it seems that they do. I used a mono pod, the archery range on base goes to 40. At 50 your actually shooting from outside the boundary of the range.
I'm sure if I take my time or if I find a solid rest to shoot from it will do better. I'm not really into archery, which is why I didn't want to drop a bunch of money into one. I look at them more as a way to extend my hunting season. With that being said, I'm very impressed with their accuracy, despite my pathetic grouping, lol.

dead deer everytime at 50 with that shooting... And yes, You could get better grouping,, if you can't then its either YOU, bolts or something wrong with the CB.. Todays technology is too advanced

I shoot off the railing on my porch. Get a speed scope if u want any reliable distance. MA3TY 120$ Amazon can't beat it..... Ripper is lighter and from everything I've seen faster

You might be able to hit arrow on arrow at 50 yards and further on the range but when shooting deer you better limit you yardage to not much over 40 yards no matter how fast or accurate your bow shoots. Long time bow hunter and it is not the bow the deer hear it is the arrow coming. Ziiiiiiiiiip. When they are much over 30 yards they have time to hear the arrow and start to react and go to break dancing and you can easily miss or have an arrow land in a bad spot. I am shooting a Excalibur 380 Bulldog with some of Jerry's custom Tap arrows from Tap Nation (South Shore Archery) with Muzzy Trocar HBX 115 gr broad heads which shoot exactly like the field points. They run 360 fps with lighted nocks and I will not shoot at the same spot twice because I WILL hit the first arrow if I did shooting from a bench out to 50 yards. I have not shot any farther due to not enough room in my back yard to do so. This bow is accurate. Heading to the woods next Saturday for opening day of deer season and will be spending the week in camp hunting.
