Hearing mixed results from 338 win mag and 250 grain Bergers so I decided to try some 230 eldx. My 338 win mag likes this bullet at 2870fps. Anyone had any on game info with this bullet?

I shot a 6x6 elk last November with the 230eld out of a 338 rum at 670yds. The elk dropped like it was hit by lighting. Upon further inspection the bullet is a very violent expander. Massive damage. I'd say it acts like the Berger bullets. Load was leaving the muzzle at 3050fps so not very fast.

I may shoot one into some water jugs at 100 yards tomorrow and see how it performs. Wish I had some elk bones left over

I moved away from the 250s in my 338ss to the 230ELDX gonna be my hunting bullet of choice this year. I switched as they are supper accurate in my rifle. I will be using on my special elk draw zone this year I hope to try them out on my sheep this year as well. I'm hoping they preform very well they are easy to find and a lot cheaper than Berger. My hunting partner has an early season bull tag I'm trying to talk him into using my outfit I'll post if we get lucky to try them out.

I bet they act like the 225 SST, which is good thing IMO. I've killed a few Elk with the SST and really like them.

Well I lined up 3' of water jugs and put a 2"x6" in front and the 230 eldx went through all of it. Guess I will have to line up a few more jugs next time. I figured 3' would catch it

The 230 ELD-X has the advantage of the plastic tip which makes it expand consistently every time. The 250 Berger being a hollow point can pencil through because the hollow point can pinch closed and not allow it to expand / fragment. Best way to fix this at a minimum is to take a pin drill to the hollow point and clean them up or better yet is to trim the meplat and then clean up the hollow point. Or just go with the ELD-X because in the end you can run them faster and get 100% expansion. I still have 400ish of the 250 Bergers and may never use them again for hunting.

Using Fed 215 primer, IMR 7977 powder and the 230 ELD-X bullet is an elks worst nightmare in a .338 Win Mag as it hits hard and puts em down to stay. The high B.C. allows for shooting at long range and the bullet performs at any distance from 25 yards to past 800 yards. The bullet will also take a jump so seating depth in older shorter magazines is forgiving.

My 338 WM end up at 2869 for an average fps. It's a 24" barrel. I've shot/confirmed to 600 which is about my personal limit. I worked up the load a couple years ago, but haven't gotten to test it on any critters. I had used the 250 Berger and after a bad experience used the 200 SST and it killed like lightening. I'm hoping for the same from the 230 ELD-X. Huntingfool's experience gives me a lot of hope, but mine are starting out considerably slower.

I have a client who just switched to the 230 eldx in his 338 Sherman. He is running them about 2930' with exceptional accuracy and plans on using them this fall.
