Boyd's

No I see what people do to guns every day and they should quit screwing them up and leave the gun work to the professionals.

That is one way to look at it. Seems pretty intolerant and unwilling to me. I get why someone might arrive there, but I disagree with the sentiment.

You called me stupid, but did you even look at the specs that Devcon publishes or are Professionals above learning something new?

Like my granddad used to say "The difference between an amateur and professional is that both know where the mistakes are, but only the amateur points them out." I've seen so-called "amateurs" who were far, far better at their trade than most professionals in the same trade.

No the amateur make the mistakes so you keep making them and I will fix them
IMO, lots of shooters on this site are DIY kinda folks and learning is a fun part of the journey to owning and shooting an accurate long range rifle.

It would be helpful to tell us what pillars we should be using with steel Devcon. Do you make your own? I myself use aluminum lamp stand threaded tubes for pillars from Ace Hardware with Devcon. How crazy it that!

I like Boyds stocks haven't had to do much to get them to fit good then bed them . I put an at one on a Rem 700 SPS tactical in 308 . pillar bedded it and put a front support under the barrel . I feel that it is better then the stock that came on it and the groups closed up to .75 wide x 1.5 vert. will work on the powder charge then the seating depth . I just enjoy tinkering with my rifles and try to learn all the time . If I screw it up it's mine and I have a lesson to look at and remind me not to do that again .

If you don't make mistakes then you never learn. Kind of like right now.
Done with this.

I've been impressed with Boyd's product quality for cost. I think they are delivering above what might be expected. As others have said, I too think that they need to be bedded. The out of the box fit is deceivingly good. It is good enough that you might think it is good to go, but it is not.

Not crazy at all.
I use steel lamp nipples. I thread the wood with a tap and epoxy the nipples in after they are fitted & indexed.
I think a lot of us end up at the same place, no one method is better than the next....

I have a few. I like Boyd's in that they make lefty thumbhole stocks. I like the diameter of the grips and the angle. Boyd's got it just right...

I have 2 & I think for the price point they are pretty dam good.

One on a Browning Abolt & the other on a Tikka

Bedding is a must I recon whether pillar, action or both.

It will pull in your groups by at least 1/2 moa with the right handloads.

They are a good starting point to test your skills when starting out with any kind of bedding.
If it all goes wrong then your not out of pocket to much!

I learnt how to DIY bed with my 1st Boyd's & it was a great learning curve for future builds.
Im no gunsmith but hey for the price if I f!@k it up I will just buy a new one & try again!

The only problem for us over here is when they got over the $100US mark the ITAR/import/export rules would kick in & we could not get these delivered directly & had to then get them through I local distributer for obviously more coin in the end.

Pretty silly really considering its just a bit of wood!!

Still have both in the safe 10 years later!

I don't know "ntsqd" so this is from an observation and nothing more; and, not intended to be critical. We all need and want to be respected. Responses such as "Okay I can't help the unwilling and the stupid" shows total disrespect for another forum member's opinions. And....... we're here to get each other's opinions that's what makes this forum so great. I understand disagreeing with a post or one's thoughts, however one can disagree to disagree respectfully. When I read your post about using aluminum bedding with pillar bedding and its affects on accuracy, I said, "Wow this is something that I have to look into." Recently I had a concern about salt bath annealing and the opposing opinions on its effectiveness to anneal. These two diverse opinions gave me an incentive to do more research before I invested and time of money into salt annealing. Lastly I'd like to thank you for providing the information that you out forward about aluminum bedding and pillar bedding as I do a lot of glass bedding on my rifles.
