i have a few short action 700 actions laying around.
I want to build a 6.5 prc.

Never have built a magnum short action rifle.

Question...

Can I use a standard short action for a 6.5 prc?

Feed ramp?
Feed rails?
Other mods to the action?

I know I have to get the bolt worked or buy a new one.

I also know I could buy a custom action for a couple hundred dollars more. I want to use up what I have before I buy a thousand dollars worth of other parts. Already have barrel, trigger, bottom metal and stock.

I would prefer actual 1st hand experience on the work that has to be done instead of something you've heard or read.

I also have a 300 wsm Winchester model 70 but I know some smiths are not comfortable working on them for some reason.

I prefer the 700 action beings I have all above listed components for a build but I'm not opposed to using the mod 70 if the short action is a complete pain in the A.

I appreciate all the info!

I built one with a BDL style mag in a Big Horn Origin. Had the action opened up for the Wyatt's extended magazine. This seems to be a must to shoot factory ammo. If you handload and have it throated right, might be able to get away without it but you'd be leaving some case capacity on the table.

Will you be able to save anything ? By the time you have the action work and the bolt face done you could buy a custom ready to go.

Just sell or trade it for a LA magnum action, much easier..
