ok I want to build a varmint rifle that will work well for long range shots. It will be mostly prairie dog shooting so I want to use a good high bc carmint bullet and want a pretty decent velocity, but barrel life is kind of important. I'm going to proably build off a big horn origin action ag composite stock trigger tech trigger but need to figure out what cartridge to go with. I want good brass available that will last, i do reload so wild cats will be considered.

What about 6x47 or 6-250ai? Which would have better velocity and what would velocity and the barrel life be on these to with like a 70-87 g bullet?

Wel I want to shoot real varmint bullets I have shot prairie dogs with target bullets in the past and wasn't pleased with the splat factor.

I just built a 22 creed with this same thought In mind.
Went 1:7 with plans to shoot the 90gr Bergers.
Haven't had a chance to shoot it a whole lot yet, but so far I've been impressed.

If I don't get the splay factor out of the Bergers, lots of other options to try.

What do you consider long range??

I would also be considering .223 with a 1:8 or even 1:7 twist.

Plenty of guys here use this combination with 80gr VLD's out to 1000 yards in F-Calss competition.
Obviously its running out of energy by then but @ 600 to 800 yards still plenty to take down a ground hog.
And very cheap to run!
