Mounting my first NightForce

Thats exactly what I'm planning to do. Ditching the 20. Shooting 6 MOA high at 100yds.

I think I'm doing the math right here...

If you remove the 20 MOA rail, and the new one is perfectly the same with 0 MOA, then I believe you'd need to then come up from the bottom of your travel 14 MOA to be zeroed at 100 yds.

That only leaves you 26 MOA, which is short of 1000 yds by perhaps 2-4 MOA in 6.5 Creed. I certainly wouldn't want to rely on holdovers at 1000 yds, but YMMV...

Purchased a 12-42x56 NightForce and ran into a problem when attempting to sight in at 100yds.
I'm unable to adjust crosshairs/elevation to target at 100yds. I'm using a 20moa rail with Weaver 30mm rings. I'm planning to use it to shoot out to 1K yds once qualified. Is the 20moa the problem and if so will I be able to get enough elevation for 1K yds if I go to a 0moa rail. The scope is 40moa/10.9mil. It's mounted on a 6.5 Creedmoor.
I would try nightforce rings for your tail the weaver rings might be your problem

Yep. Wouldn't come all the way up to center. Had a friend that having the same scope with 20MOA having same problem. He has his on a Savage action using Burris rings. If I use a zero base I'll still need 27 to 30 MOA. My scope has an additional 20moa below centerline just for that purpose.

Zero at 400. Then slip your scales. Then plug that in your calculator. I think you would have better success using hold under at closer ranges and having your turrets available at 1000.

i thought about that also but now that I know where to get that 10MOA I'll go that route first.

I shoot a 6.5, 20 minute rail, Nightforce scope. Having difficulty believing it is anything but your zero stop.
Is it the same 12-42 power, they have less than half the adjustment of a 5.5-22 and about 50% less than the 8-32. The lack of adjustment potentially plays well into his situation.

exactly. Sounds like He is blessed with a rifle and cartridge that is shooting 6 inches high at 100. And his 20 moa cant has robbed all of the down adjustment. With his 10 moa rail. He will have 36 moa elevation. If everything is correct. I've read with a creed he will only need half of that at 1000.
