hello ,
I recently started handloading for a new win 70 in .264 26" barrel 1:9 twist .. taking this riffle elk hunting this fall . I loaded a 140 grain nosler partition with rl-22 at 60 grains .. I'm coming up with a COL OF 3.233 .. seeing if anyone else may run this load .. thanks

I, too, am loading for a .264WM in M70 with the same specs as yours.

I've been working with the Barnes TSX 120gn, and the Sledge Hammer 117gn. Just checking pressure and velocity with various powders, so far.

Sweet deal .. from past experience with the .264 they can shoot great or flop .. I broke the factory barrel in with some hornady 140's but past experiences .264 factory or hand loads can be all over the place ..

Honestly went of nosler book version 7 .. and I had the powder on the shelf kinda thing .. any ideas

Well as I don't know your reloading experience my suggestion is you work up the load safely from min load to max load at whatever OAL you decide on for that powder.

I usually start all my load development with a CBTO @ 10 thou off the lands(if you magazine will accept that?).

Thank you .. i appreciate the chat for sure

Welcome to the club! Nothing wrong with anything you are working on. It will certainly do the trick. If you have sufficient time before your hunt and the desire to test a bit more you can probably do better.
Only thing I would like to add is maybe take a look at a slower burn rate powder with better temperature stability. I've had a couple of 9 twist 264 win rifles over the years. I had good results with H-1000 in a couple of rifles. Also, a lot of guys find good results with Retumbo with 140g bullets and 3,150fps isn't at all unreasonable. Others have reported good results with R-26, I haven't tried it in any of my 264 win rifles. My favorite hunting rifles are my Model 70 rifles, one in 264 win and another in 30/06.

Truly glad for all the response .. I am on my way to the range now I'm hoping that 60 grains of rl 22 isn't to hot .. a little over 80 percent stuffed .

I just loaded for a buddies. Retumbo and fed 215 was the best. 3080 with a 143. I ended up around 67-68 grains. .010 off the lands.
My 264 M70 likes Retumbo but it's throated. Running 3.340 at 0.025 off lands. 143ELDX w/ now 68.9g after she sped up.
Got the Berger 156s now. Time to start playing again. Mine is running a Bartlien 8 twist also.

Your load of 60 grains of Rel 22 looks VERY HOT when looking at the 8 edition of the Nosler Manual for the 140 grain Partition. Their max load is 59 grains.
Alliant Powder state a max load of 53 grains with a 140 grain Speer SP.

I would honestly ditch the rl22. Sucks for temp stability and isn't slow enough. Even with 68 grains of Retumbo there is still quite a bit of room in the case.

I'll try to track down retumbo .. local spots don't have any I also made 5 rounds of IMR 4064 at 52 grains .. they shot better . Is the imr 4064 slower burning than rl 22?
