Hi guys. I've been a long time reader of this forum but this is my first post. I recently bought a 300 WM tikka T3X and I'm keen to have a mag fit load if at all possible. I didn't realise however just how short the tikka mag is. The first projectile I tried was the Berger 180 gr Elite hunter and with the long throat and short mag they were 314 thou off the lands! Needless to say they shot 5 " groups at 100 yds. I have started to seat other projectiles (195 TMK and 210 LRAB) out to the lands but would prefer not to single feed if poss. I'm keen to shoot red deer out to about 600 yds max. Any idea what projectile might be best suited to such a huge jump? The twist is 1:11 so big bullets are probably not going to stabilise. Any help would be much appreciated

I did a 300wsm in a tikka and used the 200gr accubond at the coal that the Nosler book had. Shot lights out. RL17, 215, Bertram brass. It was cut down to 22"s and gave up 2790's with nothing for pressure. Stopped there cause it was literally a one hole group.

Tikkas are great rifles in everything but their 11"-twist 30 calibers. Just got a new Tikka in 270 for my Lady. I can live with 10" twist, but with new bullets the rifle makers should come out with 8"-twist 270's. Even 7.5".

My best load to date is;
180 GR Accubond
79.5 GR H1000
Nosler case
CCI 250 Primer
COL - 3.330. Fits in the magazine and feeds well.
Consistently under .5 at 2950 FPS. 79.5 GR H1000.jpg

I use the 195tmks in my 308 at magazine length, so a lot of jump. They should be fine.
What I've found is seating depth preferences still exist far from the lands. Seat at max magazine length and maybe .02" and .04" farther in and see if any of them like that amount of jump.

What's your elevation? One of my .300 WM has a 1:11" and shoots the 190 Berger VLD very well but I am at 3K' and hunts at 5-7K'.
Thanks for the replies guys. Hunting altitude varies here from sea level to a max of about 5000 ft. On average maybe 3000?
