7mm08 Deer hunting load

2800+ is more than sufficient for Whitetail & Axis. Killed a truckload of Axis with a 280 at that speed using good ole' 150 Remington CoreLokts.
It's not the speed of the wand but the magic it performs" or something like that.....I forget how that old saying goes. ;-)

I bought a kid's 700 Remington in 7MM/08 for my two grandchildren. They were
invited to a ranch in Wyoming to shoot an antelope. They went on two consecutive
years and both killed their antelope with one shot. Great little cartridge.

For deer and antelope my wife and son (And the rifle) prefer the Barnes 120Gr. Vor-TX load. Does the job all day long and is accurate (.56 moa) in her Weatherby Vanguard Camilla that they share. they don't hunt elk yet. Maybe this year.

Something about cold weather, hiking long distances, and getting the elk out dissuades them.

42-44gr of Varget with Nosler 120 BT has been very effective for deer for us. H414 also good.

+1 on the Barnes 120 TTSX. I load 42.0gr of IMR4064 and it's been a great load. No tracking, accurate, and zero recoil.

Love the 7mm08, best medium short action cartridge in the world as far as I'm concerned. Inside 200yd, found a 140 Nosler BT over 44.6 gr. of IMR 4350 does well. Work for accuracy, velocity will be more than enough for whitetail. DRT performance on deer so far. Recoil pleasant. This is vanilla ice cream compared to some of the exotica out there, but vanilla ice cream tastes good after a plate of venison.

I use accubond bullets exclusively for hunting I am so impressed with their terminal performance. My wife gun shoots 140's out of 7mm08 at around 2850. I shoot 300 rum with 200 gr accubonds at 3150fps both perform excellent, but I have never recovered a bullet from my 300 rum it goes through everything, even bull elk at 800 yard. I shoot 180's from my 3006 I have nothing but good to say about them

41.0 gr of RL15 topped off with 139gr SST has worked very well on NC deer and runs around 2755 fps on those cool mountain mornings. The same load on a 140gr Nosler BT keeps the POI dead on. Both bullets shoot clover leaf at 100yd. I'm not familiar with Antelope but I believe it should knock em down. Not many shots here over 150 yards, other members can fill ya in on yardage for Antelopes. Good firm kick but not the worse recoil I've felt. Good Luck, I've shot the 7-08 since 1997 and love it for NC hunts.

I am looking for a load for my Tikka 7mm08 stainless for whitetail deer hunting this fall. a long shot would be maybe 200 yards.
If you would share any loads that work well for you it would be very nice. I just got the rifle a couple of months ago for deer and elk. I have hunted many years with a 257 Roberts. I was told that I may
want to get a different rifle so after lots of shopping I got the 7mm08.
Thank you

I've hunted with the 7mm-08 off and on for over 25 years. Now I use mostly the 139gr SST with 41.0gr of IMR-4064, I get just over 2,800 fps and groups half MOA at 100 yds. Killed many Mulies, Coues and Javelina with it, mostly one shot kills and DRT. Kills made from 115 to 485 yards. Leaves a nice exit wound and the vitals turned to Jello, and everyone likes Jello.

I've also used the 140gr Ballistic Tips and Ballistic Silvertips with great results but the 139gr SST just simply works great with this cartridge, a perfect match.

DEEPINS , if you haven't noticed by now the 7-08's seem to be easy to get shooting well . I don't think there is a bad load , just good and great loads . I knew you would get pages of info on this cartridge . I have 3 of them . I have a broughton bbl remington , that I shoot berger 140 VLD-h with RL 17 powder 3080FPS . I have a Tikka that I shoot Hornady 139gr BTHP bullets with IMR 4064 about 2850 FPS . it's my main whitetail hunting rifle , I've killed a pile of deer with it . I have a X-bolt that I load a slightly reduced load of H4895 with a 120 nosler B-tips for my girlfriend . the Tikka and browning are just regular point and shoot hunting rifles . both shoot moa or better , out to 300 or so yards . the rem will shoot .5 moa to 1000 .

For red deer and Rein deer my go to load in two Sako 85's loaded to mag length (75mm) has been 154 Hornady Interbond in front of a stout load of Re19 in roomy Winchester or necked down Norma brass. Brass weight in the 160grs range.

V0 has in our short suppressed barrels have been in the 2720-2730 f/s range.

Have only recovered two bullets, both have shown picture perfect performance at 2,2x original diameter.

Even in the short barrels this combo has about 400y effective range.
