I'm really reluctant to bring this up because posts like this have been done many times before and I know that it probably boils down to the work being done by a really good gunsmith. I know that Hart barrels was a really big name years ago and I haven't given them much thought here lately and have never owned one. An older fellow who is a very soft spoken & level headed person that I go to church with told me that he has owned Kriegers & bartlein and they shot really good for him but he has always had the best results from Hart barrels with work done by Hart themselves. I was really astonished by that. Like I said, I know that it's all subjective to work done by the gunsmith but I just don't hear much of folks running Hart barrels anymore like the were 20+ years ago. Would like to hear what other Hart barrel owners have to say.

His hunting rifles are fitted with Krieger & bartlein. His benchrest rifles have Hart barrels. Naturally, his benchrest guns are probably going to outshine most hunting rifles in terms of accuracy.

My second to last barrel is a Hart bbl,1/10 twist 5.5 conture stainless steel 27.25 inch length ,had my Friend chambered it 30/06 and put it on a 1936 Mauser action it shoots fine bought it from Bruno's . Hart bbls are Carbide Button bbls like Douglas ,Shilen,0r Lilja . Krieger,Brux,Rock Creek,& Bartlein are Cut rifled. IMHO I think cut rifled is the Best but I can't outshoot any of the above bbls anyway so that mite be a mute point . Any bbl can be what you want it to be , I've never Heard anything But High Praise about Hart bbls or their Custom Work , that's what got me to try them and I'm Happy I did !!! Cheers !

I doudt you could go wrong with any of the 3 you mentioned. Every barrel maker makes a turd every now and again some more than others.

morning, Karen and her master gunsmith husband run hart barrels.
call hart barrels, talk to Karen, her husband is not busy
ask him for info. tell Karen what u want, ask her for info. she
is very knowledgeable about barrels and twist. I own
6 rifles with hart barrels. u will not b disappointed.
her husband does custom rifle smithing. justme gbot tum

I have to add that I just recently had two 264 win mags rebarrled by hart barrels. I was going to just order the barrels but after Jim Hart and his wife Karen spent such an incredible amount of time discussing the build etc. I decided to have them do the work. I have been super impressed with their customer service. I am looking forward to doing business with them again. I havent even fired them yet, but have alot of confidence they are going to shoot great. Plus, the price they charge is really hard to beat!

If you don't mind me asking, what do they charge to chamber & barrel to supplied action. And typical turn around time?

I can verify tomorrow but I want to say they supply the barrel, true your action, and then install the barrel/chamber for around $700-750. Of course, there is an extra charge for
- fluting
-installing a brake
-cerakote
-bedding
-etc.
They said the turn around time for just the barrel is six weeks or less. For the rebarrel job I believe it was right at 4 months.

Hart has been making some of the finest, most accurate barrels ever produced for decades, they just aren't well known in the newer, better, faster, gotta have it right now crowd.

As others have said, have a talk with your gunsmith as to what he prefers, it may have an affect on such things as warranty issues later down the road.

In reality you can get extreme precision out of probably any of the top ten or twelve makers these days on a consistent basis.

I remember 20+ years ago when I picked up a rifle that had a Hart , liljia or even a shilen , my impression was that it didn't get any better than that.

Had a Remington 6BR built about 20 years ago using a Hart barrel ( Remington 700 action). I did not shoot it a lot because I had it made for varmitting and have not had too many opportunities to go. Took it out of hibernation about 4 months and I am still amazed at how **** accurate that rifle can be. I'd use their barrels again without hesitation.
