Rechamber a 6.5creed to .260AI?

Go .260 AI. Make your brass from .243 or 7mm-08, .260 gets a little iffy to find. My rifle will hit clay pigeons all day long at 1000 yards with a hunting weight barrel. I'm building a second rifle with a bit heavier barrel right now in .260 AI.

What barrel length and bullet do you prefer?

Barrel is 26" SS Match Chamber Criterion Heavy Sporter and been shooting mostly 140-143 Barnes and Hornady. Rifle took 3 mule deer in north central Montana last fall with max. .260 Rem loads and 140 SST's. A buck and doe at about 80 yards each and a doe straight on at me at 325 yards right threw the neck. All I could see was her head and neck. My load now chrono's at 2925 fps, 48.1 grn of H4831sc in Fed 7mm-08 brass. Loads are grouping 3 shot 1 hole groups at 100 yards.

Where the 6.5 Creed outperforms the 260 Rem is when they are used in a short action. The two cases have nearly identical case capacities but with the 6.5 Creed case being a little shorter and fatter, it allows you to stretch the bullet out further which frees up a bit more case capacity and you can still run it as a repeater. It's a pretty small advantage, but an advantage nonetheless.

I would say you have all the rifle calibers you need...if you are truly flooring for less recoil than the investment is in the brake or you suppressor....
Waste of money to change barrels and calibers....if you think the gun need more power use a better powder for the extra speed....
Have a 260rem with 16" barrel, ruger compact shooting around 2900fps...(rl17)....
65284 24" barrel at 2975fps(with fairy dust)
26 nosler 26" barrel at 3200fps...and can step it up if i feel the need...
Nothing with brakes or suppressor....

My main concern is I might have to get a lighter rifle, after the neck heals. My current ones are on the heavier side. My lightest one of the bunch is the tikka CTR in .260, bare rifle comws in at 7.5 lbs.

I'm hoping to get a Tikka Superlite, which comes in at 5.9 lbs, throw on a 4.5-14x40 leupold vx3 which comes in at around 15 oz and I'll get a nice lightweight rifle I'll be able to pack easier.

Tikka makes a superlight in "The Swede." This gets you a high performance 6.5 in a factory chambering.

"The Swede" has been outdoing the "creedmoor" for almost 130 years.
While reading this thread I came upon this ridiculous post.....still laughing.....but then I felt bad....it seems somebody was shooting "one holers" with a Swede back in 1890 while the Creedmoor shooters couldn't seem to even get in the X-ring........must have been the powder.....

I have a few questions for people with better judgment and experiences than yours truly.
This year I had a neck injury at work, a herniated disc thats causing nerve Impingement in the c5/c6. Havent worked since January doing physical/ traction therapy. Still not out of the clear for surgery.
Doctor told me I probably shouldn't be shooting anymore magnum rifles. My hunting rifles are- r700 in .300 rum, Tikka t3 in 7saum, M70 in 7 saum, and a Tikka CTR in .260 Rem. Also have a ar10 in .260 Rem that I havent hunted with, but could. But its a heavy rifle.
Hunting whitetails locally the Tikka .260 will do me good. But I might be going cow elk or antelope hunting out west this year and the possibility of moose in alaska is possible in the n3xt year or so.
I'm looking at purchasing a Tikka T3x Superlite in either a 7mm-08 or 6.5 (24 in. barrel) and having it rechambered to a .280 AI or .260AI
Now that the background story is out of the way. I have a few questions.
1. This will become my primary big game hunting rifle. I do understand that my long range shots will have to be cut shorter by some distance compared to shooting my .300 or saum on game. Which caliber would you choose? Pros and cons. I do reload.

2. Should I be lookimg into rebarreling or will it be alright to just ream out the chamber to the new Ackley chamber? And does anyone know of any gunsmiths that do this? I know, I could call aroumd and ask a bunch of smiths if they will do that for me, but what the heck maybe someone has already done this and refer me a good smith.

Thanks you all in advance.
Why not try the 6.5-06 ?? The recoil can be calculated and compared to the others. you should be able to take a bull to 500+ yards.

lapua and Peterson both offer 260 brass even in small primer

7 SAUM and 280AI are virtually identical so you won't have less recoil there.
6.5 Creed and 260 with a 139 Scenar or 129/142 LRAB or 143 ELDX will work on cow elk out to 400/500 no problem. As will a 7mm08 with 150 Scenar/ELDX/LRAB.
Do you use a brake or suppressor? Helps with recoil.
I added a Blaser Recoil Reduction in my .338 Win Mag and it really tamed down the jolt.

140 whatever and 24" hunting taper, don't need a bull for shooting game. I got 150 Remington 7mm-08 and COW formed the brass, worked great. 48.1 grns of H4831sc gives me 2925 and 140 SST knocks down anything in my range(that is how far I want to drag).
